I am not worried about Mercer. His core mechanics are strong. He's good on the puck and strong along the boards. His play away from the puck is rarely noticeably bad. I think he'll find his game. Could you imagine if Holtz trends up and Mercer trends down? While Holtzy ceiling might be a little higher, there is no reason that Dawson Mercer can't hit 45-65 points each year playing in the top 6.

41 games seems to be a lot for the NHL to find that he wasn't gambling on NHL games. Is there some reason they aren't allowed to gamble that I am too free to understand? I don't even know what is allowed by the new CBA. Is it zero or just zero on NHL games?

100% correct in my honest opinion. Kinkaid or Kallgren are options. And I would bet you that's why Lindy came out and defended both goalies. Why? Why would the head coach do such a thing? Because the defense corps needs to be better and is capable of being better because they were able to do it last year. I don't know if all of last season I've seen lapses like the ones we're seeing. Lindy sees it, we all see it. That's why I am convinced its something that can be figured out internally as well. I felt both Siegs and Marino had better games last night than the night before but they were both awful again on special teams. They both need to be defensive rocks in our top 4. Dougie can play good D and when he is your best dman on what can be a good defensive team, your best defensive dmen are not at their best. Bahl and Dougie and maybe Luke on the offensive side of the puck had the best game last night. Even Smith had a better game with the penalty he took than Siegs and Marino

I think I agree. You cant come down on goalies super hard right now when the defense across the league has been fvcking horrible. Look at EDM right now. There are only a handful of goalies playing well too.

Okay, I am sorry about the goaltending performance they had and I didn't intend to offend anyone who is also a wreck right now. Nothing that you said here is wrong, but I will say again that it's early and I think Lindy will straighten the defense out. It's the defenseman as a group and then it's the team defense as a group.

I also said that goaltending on average is down across the entire league. I named a few goalies in an earlier post that might be upgrades based on age and potential upside. @2ELIAS6 hasn't named anybody that he think would be a solution to what he believes to be the problem and just wants to harp on Hellebuyck. I would add Carter Hart to that list of guys I mentioned if you're willing to pry him out of Philly and probably overpay.

They put up 4 goals. They beat the over. The defense is what is unacceptable.

You sound like an emotional wreck over a young goalie slumping to start the year. He had a fine preseason and playoffs. And the defense was horrible basically all game. Hamilton, Bahl were better than Marino defensively which isn't great and Siegs was fine in 5v5, but wasn't good with Marino on the PK. Marino figures his game out and I think things improve. You can't have a guy like Marino playing worse than Smith in the top 4. It's that simple. Saying VV was shot after he wasn't much better late in the game is a lame excuse.

Mercer is fine. 6 games in.

If we are talking about interesting young goalies, I like Kochetkov, but he's struggled early too. There's was a little bit of buzz around Askarov. There's Wallstedt in Minny if Gustavsson keeps getting it done. Those are the kind of guys you need to be scouting and looking at. It's possible to grab a 3rd goalie for next to nothing. Kochetkov is stuck behind Anderson and Raanta who both tend to get injured.

Absolutely unreal to me. I think Pally is fine, he had a good chance in the first and he had 1 or 2 more chances in that 2nd. Bratt almost set him up for a backdoor and Shepard made the stop.

I know there's some merit to the story, but wouldn't it be fvcking hilarious of a team tradition to meme about. "I'M GETTIN THE JELLY JAR!" "NO! IT'S NOT TIME YET JACK." Bahl has been excellent, but Marino is still trying to do too much. He's been better than in previous games, but he just tried to "Jack Hughes" his way past a forechecker there which led to a turnover that he was able to get back luckily and THEN he made a good bounce pass up the ice. Just make the simple pass up the ice. We don't need Marino to be trying off his cool new dekes unless it's getting the puck up the ice. We get it, you have some skill, but let's put those defensive skills first as a priority.
