Devils731
I would think if the Rangers did somehow get Sundin you would shift Gomez to wing. Then Gomez can free wheel around the ice like normal and Sundin can play 2 way.
SueNJ97
For the Rangers it would make sense to get both...Going to be awfully tough to convince Jagr to sign for 1 year with bonuses when you offer Sundin multi-years at 10 per. Lets use our head - doesn't anyone think that Sundin has a 2 for 20 or 3 for 30 offer? Even if the Rangers signed Jagr to something with bonuses there is no bonus "wiggle room" this year. Because there is technically no CBA next year, the 7 1/2% that teams are allowed to exceed the cap for bonuses that might or might not be paid and, if they do exceed it in reality, can be shoved off against next year's cap space, doesn't exist this year. So, players with first year contract that are bonus eligible have to be completely counted within the cap and so do players who are coming off of years that were wiped out by injury and sign one-year contract (also bonus-eligible) and players 35-years and older who sign one-year deals. No going over by 7 1/2% and hoping it all works out at the end of the year or shoving it off aginst next year's cap.
stevestevens
Gomez wouldnt make a good wing, hes fast and flies around the ice but most of the time it looks like he doesnt have a set idea of what he is doing. Also, he isnt a finisher, he could make plays happen but i wouldnt rely on him to put the puck in the net. Although he very well could net 30 goals in a season, thats not getting to his strength. If you have a creative offense, like teams do when Gomez is on the ice, then it doesn't really matter what your position is. Position is more important defensively when using a scheme like the Rangers and getting Gomez away from being a center defensively and making him a forechecking winger would benefit the team offensively and defensively. Basically Gomez as a winger would play exactly the same on offense but would get his defensive role changed up which would be good for him, I think. Triumph
Gomez started off on the Devils as a left wing for the most part and was moved to right wing for a time in 01-02.
Devils731
I just read on TG's blog comment section that TSN is saying multiple teams have made the 10 mil/yr offer.
