Easy to talk about the positives and there are so many, but I’ll be brief because there’s only so much you can say about how wonderful this team looks. The good: Devils started the game being outshot 7-1. They finished the game outshooting vancouver 36-16. Domination, again. Nico/Bratt/Hughes/Mercer is an offensive core like I’ve never seen as a Devils fan. They’re so young, so fast and so talented. They’re all also such unique players which is a blast to watch. Speaking of Mercer, it won’t be long until he’s a vocal leader of this team. The interview he gave in the 2nd intermission was incredible. The bad: Brendan Smith and Tomas Tatar cannot continue to see ice time. “But it’s working” isn’t a legitimate excuse. If you drive drunk 10 days in a row without a problem, it doesn’t mean it’s the right thing to do. One or both of these guys will lose us hockey games soon. Severson is playing with an anchor but he’s also just looked really, really bad this year. Trade him for a forward while there’s still some value you can squeeze out of him. Get Tatar off the first line. Graves has been good this year but had a horrible game. He’s allowed a few clunkers of course. The ugly: Worst officiated game I can remember. The NHL owes the devils an explanation as to why Miles Wood was boarded, then was instigated to fight, then was punched repeatedly in the head while the refs tried to break the fight up, then was repeatedly punched in the head by a second guy who flew into the pile, and then watched the Devils go on the penalty kill. Brucey Butterball. He’s really fvcking ugly. Ok so like Quinn Hughes isn’t ugly but why is Jack so fvcking beautiful to look at compared to Luke and Quinn?
