  1. I started wondering if it was that game right after I posted. I KNOW the quotes were from the Finals game tho. I think...
  2. I think it was a 5-on-3 as well... Something about "rocket-assisted skates" and "only Scott Niedermayer could have made this happen" are the ESPN quotes that I'm remembering.

    Big Game???

Hmmm, did you see that soccer game last month where a team protested the referees by kicking goals into their own goal? It was something like 150-0. But with the smaller playing surface, maybe they can reach 731's total.
  4. That's all very logical and true, bg. Still glad it's Marty, tho.
  5. OK, switch gears again. I think WE just got the wakeup call.
  6. I wouldn't trade him. The thing that always gets lost is that Brodeur suits THIS team. I have no idea if he'd be effective elsewhere, but I tend to think not. He's been sculpted and formed and ready to take the lower number of shots and to work with the defense that's in place. I always say that Hasek would have flopped more than usual here. It's all about the right goalie for the right team.
  7. Maybe it's Burns' idea of the wakeup call. Seems a little bizarre since Marty is the one who stood on his head, but the others are the ones he wants to wake up.
  8. whoa! i thought this was a joke post.

    Big Game???

I can go for that. If it's not 8-0 tho, I'm gonna be bumming.
  10. I love that people are actually playing D on Mario now. I mean, obviously, he's Mario, he's gonna get his chances. But it doesn't mean he needs the engraved invitation.
  11. Umm, I've seen quite a few games where Turner's play has been very important. No, he doesn't have the jump that a Danton would. But the fourth line as Jimmy-Danton-Turner has kept the play on the opposite side of the ice quite a bit this year. In particular the Atlanta game they really stood out slowing down the Thrashers' young guns.
  12. I don't mind worrying about fellow posters. It's my nature. It boils down to this, if you can't say YAY! NIEDS GOT THE OT GAME-WINNER!!! two minutes after it happens without someone jumping down your throat, then we're not in great shape on the forum.
  13. Hmmm, maybe shocked is the wrong word. I guess it is expected. It's just not appreciated much. I used to love this board for giving me the opp to do what I couldn't with anyone else. But now it's all playing defense and standing up for people that I think shouldn't be twisting in the wind.
  14. I understand what you're saying, PK. But I don't think, in this case, the young 'uns are really being defended. If you can't say you're excited about a victory two minutes after it ends, is this really healthy for any of us? That's why I'm not pointing fingers and saying this person should stop this and that. Maybe it's just cause I don't feel the need to say "it was a piddly goal so don't get too excited about it." So I'll be hyper-sensitive when it's said to Little J, whether or not I agree with it.
  15. I don't really wanna rehash anythng. Just wanted to let the posters trying to post their enjoyment over the game know there are others out there who do feel the same way and are glad for their posts and excitement. And maybe to get some people to think a little more. If you're rolling your eyes at home and going "ohhhh, not another (fill in player's name) post" how about just rolling your eyes at home then and moving on to the next post without tearing someone else down. This is fun, damn it!!
  16. I love the term "powder puff hockey." That's what it is.
  17. I wasn't sure how I wanted to word this but I'm pretty disappointed on the beratement of our own fans on our own forum. I don't see what's wrong with celebrating a goal. I don't care if it's November. Don't we ALWAYS say that every points we get are important points? And wouldn't that hold true in November as much as in March? If the forumers who are fans of a particular player are happy about them getting a goal, then they are! I don't see why anyone would need to try and knock them down two minutes after it happened. And I REALLY don't see the need for them to apologize for it afterwards. This is a fan forum. We don't have to come here only to rip apart the things we don't like. I personally am here to celebrate the team. Not condemn them and the other people here. I am not pointing to anyone in specific. I just don't think it's cool in general. If those are supposed to be coming off as jokes... well, they really aren't. I literally was open-mouthed and at a loss for words when I came to this board and saw what went on after the OT game. It's the same thing that happened last week after the victory. These are wins. They are precious to me. And yes, I celebrated every single solitary goal Tuesday like it was a March win. I feel no shame in that. And I feel no shame in Gina being happy for her favorite player. And in Little J's support for Little G. Just wanted to voice that because I thought it needed saying.
  18. I agree with you as well. I understand why the hair-trigger, it's just a byproduct of the Net and human nature to just ride the ones who aren't performing the way you want. But I'm pretty happy with this team. The talent Elias and Nieuwy have, well you know that won't last forever... esp. with them getting really good chances. And there's people there in the meantime, it's the hallmark of this team. ALWAYS. Rafalski, Nieds, Tivo... all guys capable of hot streaks. So if Maddenbrunner's down (and I don't see that except when they're physically out and even then whoever is left works HARD), there is always a Brylin there for us. A Friesen like last night. Somewhere in the long, long, LONG offseason I became a lot more rational in the team. Not in my emotional reactions (unfortunately), but in the way I think about them. No stupidstitions, no need to have overly high demands. Of course, I want the ultimate in success for them on every level. I want Patty as first team all-star again, I want Marty to win his Vezina, I want B-Raf to get to play in the all-star game he was unable to be in last year. But when it comes down to it, all I really want is for them to win. And they're doing pretty well during the early struggles. I think it'll really pay off later. The diff. between our team and Derek's team is that we don't have those weird Rag pressures to derail it.
  19. I hesitate bringing it up here, cause this is the Danton thread, but it is something on my mind. I'm not worried about the guys who aren't producing bucketloads for us right now. We're getting contribution from everyone on the defensive end, so everyone is obviously trying to make this team thing work. I've seen a lot of good things from Elias, he still looks a little snake-bit, but it's nothing he can't work his way through. Nieuwy is battling and battling and Freeze, well he just seems to be trying to find his way. With other players stepping up for us, we do have this time to give them. For Elias to figure how to get around the double-teams he now gets (particularly with less strong linemates). For Nieuwy to finish off some great chances he gives himself and for Freeze to fit in. The hallmark of this team IS the ability for others to step up and make contributions. And what we have left in the basket gives us so many options. It's hard to see them all as not playing hard when the defense can not be objected to.
  20. Yeah, I don't think there's a reason for getting on Danton at present. He hasn't had a meltdown in a month or so and I'm not gonna keep picking on him for one.
  21. I agree. I expect a tremendous amount of this guy -- but when Stevie's out, he's there for him. He is a remarkable two-way player. I think he shoulda got serious consideration for last year's Conn Smythe.
  22. I agree. Head on straight (and it's cool to have him currently situated with two of the most grounded guys on the team to help in that way). He plays pretty hard for us. And the pest element is a good one to have. He also has that glimmer of a dangerous shot, so that's always welcome.
  23. I think it proves that we need ALL our regulars. We can get by with one out, but not more than one out. I think the game proves that we have a team of weapons. And if you have two contained, there are two more just waiting to knock your block off. Marty was amazing. Shoulda got all three stars. Weird to say that in a game where three goals went by, but it coulda been two more before the team got their s*** together. Boy, Tivo was glad to get off the donut.
  24. They really got to let them play. Chico and Emrick were talking about something like "powder puff" hockey or something like that. I really don't want to see that -- no matter how exciting the league finds Mario scoring on power plays. It's HOCKEY. There's an element of physical contact involved. Just glad the team banded together and decided not to go under.
  25. I'm the good luck to your bad luck. I was gone the first two periods. And home to see the good stuff.
