sheeps
This medal game for the World Women's Hockey Championship is so quirky. First the ref doesn't blow the whistle fast enough and the US goalie lets it go - Canada capitalizes and chips it in. The US goalie thought play was dead. Half a period later, the US SCORED. As in, they showed three different replays that showed the puck IN THE NET and they ruled it no goal (I believe even with video replay). It should be 1-1. Instead it's 2-0 Canada. This is awful. sheeps
2-0 final. What crap. The announcer was even screaming that the US would be furious as soon as they saw the highlights. He's right.

devilsrule33
I watched the end of the third but saw the higlights. It was definetly a goal for the US. Don;t know if they have instant replay or something. Now for the second Canadian goal. I guess the wistle could have been blown a bit quicker but it wasn't like she let the puck go. She brought the puck into her body and the puck slipped out.
Don
(1) I'll give you the goal. I haven't the foggiest idea how they missed that. They even went to the phones. The call on the ice was no goal, but the ref was in no position to make the call. I was at the other end of the ice, but from where I was, I thought it was a goal. My brother said it was a goal purely based on the fact that if a shot that hard hit the post or crossbar, we would have heard the "ding". But I just looked at the TSN replay, and that was a goal, no doubt about it. (2) As for Canada's second goal, so what? "The ref didn't whistle the play fast enough". What the heck is that? Maybe the U.S. goalie should keep the puck covered until there IS a whistle. You don't cover the puck until you THINK there is a whistle. You cover the puck until you HEAR a whistle. (3) You want to call a crooked tournament? You go look at the Salt Lake game where, by someone's amazing doing, gave the US and Canada an AMERICAN referee for a sold out Olympics final on home turf. There were 8 straight minors called on Canada in the first 30 minutes alone, including 2 5-on-3 power-plays. And those were completely f-ed calls. At least we play by the rules enough to have a Finnish referee. Anyhow, I thought it was an awesome, awesome game and tournament. That game was so back and forth. Penalties were almost even, Canada going 0-6 and the US going 0-4. AND DID YOU HEAR THAT CROWD?!?! I AM SO F'ING HOARSE RIGHT NOW!! AND DEAF! My brother ripped off another 4 sets of thundersticks and they were ALL used by the end of the first period. The "Let's go Canada" chant HAD to stop in the 2nd period because we just couldn't yell any more. So, instead, we did the wave. And that HAD to be the loudest "Ole" I've heard outside Montreal! They just interviewed Dana Antal (as you all know, she's my favorite player) and she just said that they are all flying out early in the morning. And, well, so am I, as coincidence would have it. So I'm takin' me sharpie!! Oh, man... I won't be able to sleep tonight. I'm just so pumped up right now. Even with people telling me that it was a crooked tournament.... --------- BTW - my brother just called - he tells me that they did NOT go upstairs on the blown goal. The referee called it on the ice as no goal. She did confer with the goal judge, who also agreed that it was no goal. With the ref and goal judge in agreement, they didn't bother checking TSN's replay. But that's still 2-1.
bingham
USA should have had that goal in the third, the late call could have been a visual error yet the missed goal was really sloppy.
Don
BTW - I feel SOOOO stoked right now!! I now know a little bit of what it must have been like for those that were at Game 4 in 1995, or Game 7 2003. The screaming. The yelling. The comradere. The turning around to people you don't know and high-fiving them. I've never BEEN THERE for a big time win. Never even in a town when there was a big time win. I was at the Memorial Cup when the Mooseheads got beat by Barrie. I was in Halfax when we lost the World Juniors (though I couldn't get tickets to the game). I was in Ottawa when they got beat by the Devils.... well, that one I can live with. (-: This is the first time I've been in attendance at a semi-major tournament and my team won. The players hugging each other, Dana was crying her eyes out, Cassie was glowing when she picked up the tournament trophy, the passing around and the skates around the ice... the whole time during a thunderous standing ovation.... I'm working on 7 hours sleep in the last 48+, but there is no way I could sleep right now. I'm thinking I should go to bed NOW before I put another ebay bid in on Dana's autographed game worn jersey. It's now running someone around $350 right now. Wickenheiser's is up around $550. But I'm right on that edge where emotion is overruling logic.... Woo. Maybe I'll run into Dana at the airport and I can ask her to put on the jersey and sign it. That way I can have a jersey signed and worn by Dana and save the $350. (-: Since I'm just running on here... I'll just shut up now and go rewatch the game. (-:
Don
I realize I'm talking to myself. Shutup. http://www.tsn.ca/canadian_hockey/news_story.asp?id=79269 Basically, they couldn't go upstairs because there is no "upstairs" at the women's championship. This year they could have, given that TSN had the games covered in typical TSN fashion, but I doubt they could have all the angles covered in, say, China. So as it stands, the tournament does not use replay and you have to live with the calls as seen by the referee AND the goal judge. Who both said no goal. Still, that makes it 2-1. And since the US was down 2-0, they pulled their goalie with 2 minutes to go instead of one minute to go and still couldn't get a goal. sheeps
Don, I was not TELLING you it was crooked - I posed this thread as a question. I expected you and dr to weigh in but did not expect defensiveness. And I did not feel any need to dredge up history (e.g. Salt Lake). With two players in front of the net and the puck frozen, the whistle should have come faster. I'm sorry, that's for a goalie's safety. You get people hacking away at a glove and broken wrists don't come far along. That is careless on the referees and resulted in a cheap goal. You know what TSN said about it? Basically that the US goalie must be used to quick whistles. Meaning ECAC officials are less careless than the officials tonight. I'm sorry, I'll never shut up about that goal. It is bullsh!t. My team lost a goalie for two months due to a broken wrist from some a$$hole hacking away because the whistle was never called. I will never give you that one. Don
Hey. I just rewatched some of the game (I was told by someone that I WAS on TSN, but I can't find me). Here is what TSN also said: "There have been some tricky calls tonight. There could have been a quick whistle, but there wasn't, and the replay shows that that was the right call." Maybe I'll make an MPG of it so everyone else can have their say. As I said, I can't find me on the tape, but my brother has the pictures up, so you can find me here: http://photos.jacknife.org/thumbnail.cgi/2...PG?user=whiting This one here, the auto-focus focused on the flag... but upon further review, it looks pretty neat: http://photos.jacknife.org/showphoto.cgi/2...humb=y&index=47 Dana taking a shot: http://photos.jacknife.org/showphoto.cgi/2...thumb=y&index=8 Dana doing 2-on-1 drills: http://photos.jacknife.org/showphoto.cgi/2...humb=y&index=19 Dana making a quick turn: http://photos.jacknife.org/showphoto.cgi/2...humb=y&index=22 Anyone figure out who my favorite player is yet?
