  1. I wish TSN showed more than just the Team Canada games. People would watch Czech-Slovakia or Finland-Sweden, no doubt. Hell yeah. I actually saw Jack the monkey (from MVP) play hockey during the intermission at a Devils game a few years ago. He scored! It was awesome.
  2. I hate to rain on the parade but Askey only wore #35 for the Ducks. You can check this at the Ducks website: http://mightyducks.com/history/history.asp?mainid=5 I am pretty sure Gerber has only worn #29 in a regulation game too, but not 100%. The photos were probably from pre-season games. I think Askey wore #67 one pre-season.

    Yellowcard

It's on TSN in Canada... but in the US I believe it is PPV only. Heja Sverige!
  4. Paul Ysebaert for Lee Norwood. Yuck.

    Montreal

MTL has won something like 40 Stanley Cups (counting all teams) and had two riots, 1993 and the Richard riot. There were no problems after Canada's famous gold medal win of 2002. Ste-Catherine and Peel and Crescent were all jam packed with thousands of people going completely mental and there were police in full riot gear everywhere, but as far as I recall there were no incidents like there were in 1993. It was a happy and safe night of revelry.
  6. I've had a bad week. I need to study.... that's it - I'm leaving the NHL Network on 24/7.
  7. I think participation may have dropped off because of a combination of factors. There are a lot of questions each day*, they have gotten much harder (that's why I am slipping, heh), and the length of the contest. * = The contest info thread says: "(2) Don Whiting will post, on average, 2 questions per day with the point values following the question." I'll be honest, when I started participating in the contest I had no idea it would be so long. Once I realised I was a bit surprised. It's a bit of an undertaking but I stuck with it because I was in the top 3 (at the time) and it had been pretty fun. I love trivia. I've learned some good tidbits too. When it's over I am sure I'll miss it. Also: The erratic times semi-recently were a bit confusing too. I would suggest that if things got hectic for Don he could take a break for a few days or prepare in advance and have an assistant post and score the contest? Or maybe have less questions per day? I am sure we all appreciate the amount of time it takes him to deal with this every day.
  8. Yikes, I don't know how he does it. I am pretty good at the trivia but I make easy/stupid mistakes or have brainlock pretty often. He's almost flawless. Some of the questions are pretty damn obscure too. O_O
  9. Don't worry about it. I was wrong. I realised when I read the answers that I did not read the question carefully enough. I did not consider home and away games. The Canadiens lost the first two games of 1993 in Le Colis
  10. I'd say the odds are 50/50. So, I voted yes because I'd like to see it happen. Lamoriello is not one to waste any time if he feels that the coach has lost the team or is not the best candidate for the job (just ask Ftorek and Robinson). There is some evidence that this started to happen this season - to say nothing of questionable tactics and player decisions. So I'd expect Burns to be axed or there to be some significant player changes. Personally I would like to see ex-Devil Joel Quenneville take over. He's a great coach, a fresh voice, and his tactics and coaching style are not one as dimensional as prior Devil coaches (not too def/off or not too much of a player's coach/ tough guy).
  11. Ugh, of all the teams.... you had to pick them?!

    Nicely Done.....

I moved here spring in '97. Prior to that I was in Halifax. What happened there(WC96)? The US played Russia in Ottawa and they booed the US anthem. Controversy ensued. I know you asked Don but IMO Halifax is an amazing, underrated, & beautiful little city.
  13. Yikes. Some hard ones today. Especially that 1st one! O_O

I don't want to get into a debate, I come here for hockey news and views... but reading this thread made my head hurt. So here is some information and clarification: -) It's called freedom, people can do whatever they want - whether you agree with it or not. To anyone who would deny anyone else their freedom of opinion or expression then I boo you: "Boo". -) For most people it has nothing to do with the Bruins or US-based teams. It's political and nothing more. It's not personal and not aimed at American fans or players. It has nothing to do with hockey and thus should be removed. Anthems started during WWII as a way to "increase patriotism". It's a relic which should be removed. Save it for international play (hey Don - remember Ottawa in WC96? It's not just MTL, eh). -) People call them "stupid" but I'd wager that the vast majority of them known a lot more about global politics than the average sports fan. You may not agree with them but everyone has the right to an opinion. It may be an inappropriate forum but it is forced on people who just want to see a sporting event and so they react. It's unfortunate. -) It has little to do with Iraq. People have been doing this since long before the problems in the Middle East. -) Many Americans feel the same way about their government but would never express their opinions at a sporting event for fear of being beaten or abused. -) People that boo are French and English. -) Logic dictates that if the people who booed were "separatists" they would be booing the Canadian anthem, not the US one. O_o -) Seperatism is at one of it's lowest points in the past 20 years right now. Last year the Parti Qu
  15. Psst. Turn on TSN. It's on for now during the pre-game. Maybe intermissions too? Plus there is the NHL Network.
  16. According to Ron MacLean on CBC - Souray's quote on the play: "It was a nothing slash". Even his teammates know what Kovalev is good for.
  17. Was it the hockey gods or the ghosts of the Nordiques? First in Game 2 ex-fan Bergeron scores the OT winner and then in Game 4 the famous flopper of 95's infamous reputation costs them the game.
  18. FWIW it seems like every Canadiens fan I know is just as disgusted with Ribeiro's antics as everyone else. I think Saku needs to kick his ass...again.
  19. Now imagine if they had not traded Sundin for Clark! O_O
  20. I'll let Google do the work for me: It?s the fourth game of the Eastern Conference playoffs, 1995. Alexei Kovalev of the Rangers is down, apparently unconscious. At the other end of the rink, the Nordiques star forward is rushing the net. Joe Sakic fans on the shot and Kovalev doesn?t move. Andy van Hellemond, the game?s most experienced referee, is somewhere in the middle, trying to decide what to do. Thinking that Sakic?s rush has failed and worried about the man who?s down, he blows his whistle. What he doesn?t know is that Sakic has somehow recaptured the puck and scored, and that Kovalev is about to get up and skate to the bench. But play has been stopped and the goal doesn?t count. The Rangers go on to win the game (in overtime) and then the series. http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detai...732120?v=glance Kovalev was fine of course. He was faking it and he is still reviled for this. The refs have a long memory. The CBC's announcers were talking about it last night after the Ribeiro fiasco.
  21. Probably because he was on the Florida Panthers that year. ;p
