  1. Looks like we get meh Noah tonight. We get that version a lot.
  2. Guess this is how you roll when you don’t have much in the way of ready-to-help prospects. The team of BVW and Jeffy is getting more painful to watch by the move.
  3. In fairness, Gio usually starts very well...that I’m not that surprised by. You saw the stretches I posted...they are scary. Harvey now up to a 7.50 ERA on the season. At this rate he may not make it through the season. I have no idea who the Angels were bidding against...they probably could’ve had him for half his current contract, he’d been so bad (not to mention injury-prone) the last few years.
  4. That’s a classic Met move if I ever saw one. Forever shopping in the clearance racks.
  5. Obviously Alonso's massive dingers (and the fact that it sure seems like he always hits them when it counts) have been fun to watch, but his numbers have been pretty rough for a while now otherwise. His last 27 GP (24 starts): .188 BA, .259 OB% (3 HPB have helped that number), 7 BB, 33 K, 8 HR (and 16 RBI), but only 18 total hits. It's even worse lately...his last 13 GP (12 starts): .143 BA, .245 OB%, 3 BB, 14 K, 5 HR (all solo shots). He's about as all-or-nothing as it gets right now...he's in an unfortunate spot because you never want to ask too much from a rookie, but if he keeps hitting around .200, we're going to start noticing it a lot more soon...especially if the HRs stop coming. Unfortunately the Mets are in a position where they absolutely NEED him to hit. Good news is that his BABIP is only .175 for the 27 GP stretch...there could be some bad luck involved, but the Ks are worrisome.
  6. And though it's both way too soon and completely unfair to compare these kids to guys like that, to me that's what this draft kind of is...Hughes is the Crosby, and Kakko is the Ovechkin. Not like you can possibly go wrong with either guy (based on general projections, anyway), but I take the Crosby-type every time (unless I'm so blessed that I've already got at least one guy like that in my system). BTW though there's obviously more to their games than simple glamour numbers, Crosby's averaged about 39 G and 67 A per 82 GP for his career, and Ovi's averaged 50 G and 42 A per 82 GP for his.
  7. Oh this was most definitely a blip. That Nats BP just bleeds runs, and profusely at that. That group is just killing the rest of that team, and this series said far more about THEM than it ever did about the Mets. And yeah, the Mets winning with their current fill-ins is not at all sustainable. They could easily be right back to 5+ games under .500 very quickly. But yeah, guess for now might as well enjoy the moment, and hope against hope that Brodie's Toadies can somehow buck every last possible odd and find a way to keep this going a little longer.
  8. Thank you once again Nats pen...I've never seen a more inept group EVER.
  9. And then Gsellman turns in a great Familia impression. Figures. Gsellman definitely has his blow-up games here and there.
  10. Oh man...Jeurys fvcking Familia's in...I think I'd rather see Doug Risk Sisk than Familia at this point. And he works a clean inning! With Lugo out, obviously have to pray that Familia can somehow figure things out.
  11. Yeah that's how they're going to have to do it. Just goes to show what can happen when you PUT THE DAMNED BALL IN PLAY! But these damned saber-geeks with their "strikeouts don't matter" mentality don't seem to understand that. Was a tough inning for Strasburg...guessing he might have one more left, unless he gets through it very quickly.
  12. And of course they give it right back. Hopefully the Mets find their way into the Nats' pen again without it being too late in the game. Odd start for Matz...he's allowed 12 baserunners in 6 IP, and has K'd 7...yet has only thrown 88 pitches. Has the top of the order coming up though...not sure if the Mets take their chances letting those Nats hitters see him again.
  13. If Todd Frazier is your third-place hitter, kinda says it all. Mets find a way to manufacture a run at least. Sac fly by Lagares.
  14. Randy McKay had one in 1995 against Boston in the first round...Game 4. Game them a 3-1 series lead. Think that was the only goal of the game.
  15. To be fair, he didn't miss any games during the 2015-16 WHL season...he put up 132 points in 93 GP that year (regular season and playoffs). He did miss a slew of games the following season of course...enough that I think he was no longer the clear cut #1...and yeah, at the same time Hischier has a fine season in Halifax in the Q, and suddenly the #1 became much more debatable. Even though Nolan's early NHL returns haven't been mind-blowing, he has played in 145 games over his first two seasons...he's missed 19 games...so it's not like he's Mike Cammalleri levels of fragile so far as an NHLer. Also to be fair, Patrick still has time on his side...but if I'm a Flyer fan, as much as I'm trying to be patient, I really need to see some real improvement and production in Year 3...or at the very least, a lot more hints of it coming fairly soon. Not that I ever mind a Flyer #2 overall pick never panning out as hoped...or their fans being pissed about it...
  16. Sadly in Cano's case I think him being away from the team might not be such a bad thing...I think he's pure cancer...and even worse, quite possibly not capable of overcoming his sh!ttier qualities with talent and ability any longer. McNeil is an absolute killer, no questions asked.
  17. Re: Arnott...people forget what a low he was on when he came here...he was having a brutal year in Edmonton, and it didn't get any better for him when he first came to NJ...he somehow managed just 10 goals in 73 GP that season, split between the Oilers and Devils. And it wasn't looking much better when he scored 11 goals through 49 GP in his first full season in NJ (1998-99)...but then just like that, he started finding the net...16 goals in his final 25 GP (and for the next 10 seasons would remain a consistent offensive force, averaging 65 points per 82 GP before inevitable decline set in), and though maybe to some he never quite lived up to his earlier hype, he had a much more productive career than I think many people realize...1238 GP, 417 G and 521 A over an 18-year career player.
  18. Agree with the bolded, and "bust" is subjective...if Patrick becomes a solid NHLer who plays in 1000+ games (but doesn't necessarily put up eye-popping numbers), I wouldn't call him a bust. But his career is definitely off to a disappointing start...and the fact that the Flyers themselves are already talking about him possibly not being a 1C or 2C isn't a great sign. It's obviously a minuscule sample (just two years in the NHL, his age 19 and age 20 seasons), but he's been Zacha-like in his production...teases that have you hoping he's figuring things out, then long periods of invisibility (especially offensively). Nolan had a 9 points in 10 games stretch early last year (I'm sure that gave Flyer fans a lot of hope, that Year 2 was going to be a huge step forward), and later had a 19 points in 25 games stretch...so basically, 28 out of his 31 points on the season came in 35 games. That's three points in his other 37 GP, and sure, I fully get that there's peaks and valleys with many players...but it's much more like bottomless canyons with him...he went through a 24-game drought with no goals and just two assists, and finished out the season with only one assist over his last 9 GP. I'm sure Flyer fans are getting frustrated at this point.
  19. Agree, I think they’ve reached that point...but with three very good starting pitchers, they may try to Band-Aid instead. I don’t know what series of quick-fix moves they can possibly make to right this thing though. It really does feel like they need to tear down and start fresh. BTW they’re 11 under NOW...they’re 19-30.
  20. Yeah I’m definitely not feeling like things have turned around...that sweep at the hands of the Marlins is still too fresh in my mind. And no lineup like yesterday’s is going to lead to much in the way of consistent wins. Finishing off the Nats today would be nice, but it’s not like I’ll suddenly buy into BVW’s sales pitch that all really is well.
  21. Wow this Nats pen just absolutely KILLS game after game for their team. Doesn’t matter who they bring in.
