Hurricanes re-sign Brendl

TSN.ca Staff

7/30/2004

The Carolina Hurricanes have re-signed forward Pavel Brendl to a one year deal. Financial terms were not announced.

Brendl scored five goals and eight points in 18 games last season with the Hurricanes before suffering a fractured collarbone in a game against the Toronto Maple Leafs in February.

"When Pavel joined the Hurricanes last season, he showed that he can be effective at this level," said Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford.

"We hope that next season he can stay healthy and build on the good things he did last year."

Brendl, the former CHL rookie of the year, was the fourth player taken overall by the New York Rangers in the 1999 NHL draft. He was sent to the Philadelphia Flyers in 2001 as part of the deal which saw the Rangers acquire Eric Lindros. The Hurricanes picked him up in a 2003 deal which saw Sami Kapanen go to Philadelphia.

Compensation: 2004/05 $1,127,500.00

Wasnt he expected to be a 40 goal scorer when he was developing in the NYR system??

Yeah, he and Lundmark were supposed to be stars.
