what about the 2 picks we sent to Dallas to take Scott Gomez as number 30 in the

first round ?? That was a sweet steal !!

Scotty was selected 27th overall. The pick before him was Mike Van Ryn :puke:

that can't be right.. I remember being at the draft party and ready to go as Dallas

was on the clock... and then the whole place STOPPED as they announced a trade....

and then they announced WE made the grade... and then that it was Gomez....

and the comedy bits for the recap began immeadiately

and since Dallas won the Cup in 1999, it had to be the last pick right ?

Not necessarily, they hadn't made the rule that the Cup Champion picks last at that point. So they were picking wherever their record said they should pick. But weren't there only 27 teams at that point anyway??? Did they win the President's Trophy that year??? Did Atlanta, Columbus and Minnesota exist in 1998-1999???

Sue I'd SWEAR they put the rule in after the Devils won in 1995, cause I'm sure someone bitched about the Cup Champs picking 17th in the draft :)

but I just looked in the media guide.. he was listed as drafted 27th overall

I think Minn and Columbus were the next year which would explain it :noclue:

Crasher, since Gomez was drafted in 1998, not 1999, it was definitely still the President's Trophy winner that was drafting last in that round, not the Cup winner.

In 1999, Dallas was the Cup & the President's Trophy winner. But I don't know what the rule was that year.

I do know that after NJ won the Cup in 2000 they picked in the 22nd spot but that was because they held the Avs pick in the Claude deal.

Best trade, not sure, but a really good trade that no saw coming was Rolston for Lemuiex. I hated to see Brian go, but Claude brought veteran leadership, and grit, and also became a mentor for a young Gomez. I think that was a very good trade.

seems to me Don & RD just lost all their nominations for nicest poster...

for the record:

When the Hell?heavan thing was originally concieved it was done becuase of the enormous amount of cross over traffic from other team. Hell was the forum to post in if you wanted opinions from everyone, Heaven was "devil's Fans ONLY" forum.

since the demise of Rivals.com.... the cross over traffic has really been minimal... so Heaven has been forgoten about....

anyone else have an history questions???

In 1990 we had the 11th pick (I think). Trevor Kidd was considered the best goalie available. We traded down to 20 with Calgary and took some guy named Brodeur instead. I'm not sure what else we got in that deal, but it could have been a bag of pucks and it was still one of the greatest of all time!

Does anyone have better details of that trade and what else we got?
