Montreal Canadiens' forward Randy McKay has been diagnosed with a hairline fracture in his left foot. He is expected to be out for about two weeks.
McKay, who signed as a free agent from the Dallas Stars, had an MRI yesterday. His foot has bothered him since he was hit by a shot early in training camp.
The Canadiens' other prize off-season acquisition, Mariusz Czerkawski, did not practice Wednesday. He pulled a hamstring in practice Tuesday and will try to skate Thursday.
McKay and Czerkawski were expected to be on the team's top line with captain Saku Koivu. Instead, Montreal has juggled it's line-up, putting Koivu with Andreas Dackell and Chad Kilger. Doug Gilmour will centre Richard Zednik and Oleg Petrov, while the third line features Yanic Perreault with Joe Juneau and Donald Audette. Bill Lindsay and Jan Bulis are slated for the fourth line.
The Canadiens open the season Friday night in Pittsburgh against the Penguins (TSN, 7pm ET).
