Colorado Rockies 1976
Easy to get on Diaz, but he pitched last night, and heaven forbid the Loser Twins ever actually get going. I know Alonso has 8 dingers but he’s so one-dimensional now. Edited April 30 by Colorado Rockies 1976
Colorado Rockies 1976
Same ol same ol. 12-8 was fun while it lasted.
Colorado Rockies 1976
To illustrate how overly reliant Alonso has become on hitting dingers...since the start of last season: .220/.320/.502 slash, 149 hits in 182 GP, 174 K, 78 BB, just 24 2B hits, 54 HR Basically, he doesn't hit nearly enough, and he's not exactly getting on base that much for a slugger who's supposed to be "feared". He has driven in his fair share of runs over this sample size (132), but they tend to come in bunches within games...basically, he'll have a 2 HR, 5 RBI kind of game, then five or six games where he does very little. Lindor is slashing .245/.328/.453 since the start of last season, which is far from great himself. Basically, if Lindor and Alonso are supposed to be the anchors of this lineup long-term...the Mets are fvcked. They don't really hit enough, they don't get on base enough, and they both fatten up their numbers on the occasional monster game. Neither are consistent nor reliable, and it's a big fvcking problem. The offense in general is looking more and more Sandy-like every day (lots of low BAs and Ks galore), and that's ALSO a big fvcking problem. ButlerBulldog
Per MLB.com, the Red Sox have signed Dominic Smith to a minor league contract.

Yeah he's put up an 85 OPS+ the past three years...that's the kiss of death for a first baseman. There's just nothing he does particularly well at the plate. The other thing about Dom is that he's the black version of Jim Breuer, in that the poor guy looks like he's high ALL OF THE TIME.

You never know. Maybe he is. David Wells admitted to pitching while intoxicated.

Looks like Pete was channeling Stanton after tagging up on McNeil’s fly-out. I don’t know what say about the slide. Yikes!
NJDevs4978
The catcher was probably illegally blocking the plate by the rules, but Alonso's hand also came up on the slide and the fact he got thrown out with a relay to begin with just screams too fvcking slow, just seems like only the kind of bizarre endings that happen to us. Colorado Rockies 1976
Mets showing a little fight after falling behind 4-0 and being no-hit for four innings. Now tied 5-5. Maybe Alonso goes on a HR tear at some point, but at this point, I really hope the Mets shop him around as the deadline approaches. Might be their best chance to actually get something good back. If they dare to sign him to big money and he continues to be the .220ish whiff-prone hitter who has that way of rarely getting it done when his team really needs him to (see today), they could be stuck with him a long time, and not in a good way. Colorado Rockies 1976
Take ‘em however you can get ‘em. Big day for Lindor, which means he’ll do little the next 4-5 games.
Colorado Rockies 1976
Crazy game tonight. Mets take a 3-0 lead, fall behind 9-3, now trailing 9-7. At least Pete drove in a damned run for a change.

NJDevs4978
Of course our punchless offense can't do the job, again. Funny we figured the pitching would be the issue between the mediocre non-Senga starters and the mediocre non-Diaz relievers but the pitching's actually been more consistent (sans Houser) than the bats this year. Can’t build the offense around the Loser Twins. Hopefully Stearns is seeing that.
Colorado Rockies 1976
So with a two-run shot today, Lindor somehow has 17 RBI over his last 16 GP. Doesn’t feel like that, mostly because 8 of them came in two separate games of 4 each. And all of the RBI came in 7 out of 17 games. He also hasn’t been red hot from a hitting and OB% standpoint…and has been racking up a fair amount of Ks. Colorado Rockies 1976
The Mets have NO chance if Diaz can’t be the 2022 version of himself. Not nearly enough margin of error. Another hitless nothing day for “Now Bora$ is my agent” Alonso.
NJDevs4978
At least Cohen isn’t going full invisible man like Fitz lol, if you call a Tweet being ‘out’ there. I’m sure the Benigno types will be trolled by him talking about the future and prospects but you gotta start somewhere, we’ve more than proved you can’t buy a winner. And Stearns REALLY has to seriously explore what an Alonso trade at or near the deadline would look like. He’s been a sub-.220 hitter for what’s quickly coming up on a 200-game sample…this is not some isolated extended slump. Hitting a lot of home runs loses something when you’re simply not hitting enough in general. The Mets have already made one massive investment with mixed returns in Lindor. Some guys have terrific years earlier on but lose it earlier than most, and sadly it feels like Alonso might very well have already had his best years.

I’d say I’m getting a Ryan Howard vibe from Alonso, but that wouldn’t be fair to Howard, who was an MVP and helped the Phillies win a World Championship. Perhaps Richie Sexon or Ron Kittle is a better comparison.
