Default
I am a lurker obviously, but why is Elias -12, leading the team? Parise leads the team in +, I thought Elias played decent defense? I can't see every game being upstate dealing with blackouts, but from what I have seen he's played well, is it just a coincidence he plays bad defensively when I don't watch? Please explain, Elias has been a great scoring/decent defensive forward for years, what's going on this year?
devils102
After that slow start he's managed to stay at around -14 for the last month or so now that he has found his game. Also, all the PP goals against we've given up have hurt him.

Please explain, Elias has been a great scoring/decent defensive forward for years, what's going on this year? A few things are contributing to this. 1 - all the short handed goals given up. Elias is on the ice for almost all of them. 2 - Scott Gomez's poor play. The defensive zone coverage just hasn't been there for #23 this season. 3 - Elias has not scored very much even strength, nor have his linemates. Even in a normal season, he'd probably be a minus because of how few times he's gotten on the board.
Derek21
The explanation actually is quite simple: Elias is on my fantasy team.
Vinnie
Plus/minus is a somewhat dubious stat, but his line mates have better ratings: Gio -7 and Gomez -3, which is puzzling. Martin is tied for worst at -12. The only plus players are Hale +1, and Zajac/Parise +3. That's pretty awful.
thekat8400
Elias played with Langs and Zajac while Gio and Gomer played with Parise before Julien reunited EGG. So that may be part of the reason why they have better +/-.
LetsGoDevils
He's a liability. We should trade him.
