Derek21
There's nothing wrong with this thread. Sting said BIG IF. For me, since I am a Ranger fan and they are looking done, I will root for Ottawa. This team is fun to watch and Canada needs them to win. Watching the Senators play is refreshing. In last nite's 3-2 OT victory over the Rangers, they dominated it so much that I was shocked it even went to OT. The Rangers can thank Mike Dunham for the point they squeaked out. I am very impressed with how Ottawa plays and it would be a great story for hockey if they finally get past Toronto and win the Cup. Out west, I will pull for the bottom teams like Edmonton, Anaheim and Minnesota. Still wouldn't mind seeing Nashville make it.
sammyk
Why does Canada need them to win? Did the government place a bet or something?
Derek21
Because it would be good for the sport. Canada hasn't had a winner in a while. Look at the proof lately. All American teams and mostly middle-to-Big Markets. Cup Winners: 2002-Detroit 2001-Colorado (formerly Quebec) 1995-New Jersey 1994-New York Rangers 1993-Montreal That's a long time for Canada w/o a Cup. And if you look at most of the teams left that play there, most are small market with the exception of Toronto and possible Montreal. You don't see low payrolls like Ottawa, Edmonton and Vancouver winning. And Calgary never makes it because of the imbalance under the current CBA. That's not good for the game. sammyk
So if they don't win a Cup do you really think that Canadians will lose interest in hockey? C'mon. How is it "bad" for the game if a Canadian team doesn't win?
Derek21
It sums up the sad tale that the Big Market teams are winning. Yes, even New Jersey has to be considered a middle to Big Market. Look at all the winners. Where's the balance??? Face facts. The teams with more $$$ are winning. That's not good for the game of hockey. sammyk
Yah, you're right, but what does that have to do with Canada? There are plenty of small market teams in the United States too.
aylbert
Personally, when the Devs get knocked out, I root for whatever team plays the team that knocked us out...
HarbingerOfSorrow
Hmmm. A good question. But the HOS would prefer to not have to think about it unless it actually happens.
Elias Sports Bureau
Personally, when the Devs get knocked out, I root for whatever team plays the team that knocked us out... I'm the opposite. I prefer said team to die in painful ways. So Carolina's fall from grace has been quite satisfying.
