I think I would like to see the Knights sweep the Canadiens so that we can spend the entire summer telling Canada how much the North Division sucks at hockey.

The more I think about it, I think this is the off-season to go big on Hamilton or Jones. With the NHL warning that the cap could be flat for the next several years, that has to take 2/3rds of the league out of the running right off the bat. You have to think of we put up a serious offer we would be in major contention. I guess Jones could be serious about waiting for UFA but if the Devils wanted to trade and sign him this off-season, he might think twice after watching Taylor Hall’s “bet on himself”. It might be a year or two earlier than ideal in terms of the rebuild but I also don’t trust that the big boys won’t get together and tell Gary that they want another compliance buyout since they were all banking on the cap continuing to rise. I don’t think there will ever be a better chance for us to add a young #1 D through free agency than this summer.

Given that the Hall, Subban, Palmieri senior core didn’t work out, I don’t think it matters for our window that Jack, Nico etc will be getting paid. If we get to where we want to be, they’ll become the senior core. It will be important to win while we have the second wave of Holtz, Mercer and our 4th overall making minimum wage.

Am I the only one that wants nothing to do with Laine? IMO he’s too much of an enigma to be one of your top salary guys.

I would rather see us trade for Jones if we knew we could re-sign him in advance. I know it would cost more in assets but I think he's better than Hamilton, his skating would fit right in with what we're trying to build and as long as he's been around, he's still only 26. Granted Hamilton is somehow still only 27 despite the fact that it seems like he's been around forever. Jones also seems like the type that will be able to play well into his 30's because of that effortless skating ability. If we traded something like Holtz and the 2022 1st (C'bus already has three 1sts this year), imagine the mobility of a Luke Hughes/Seth Jones top pairing.

I took off the next day. When the parking lots closed we ended up closing the Friday's or Houlihan's (can't remember) in Secaucus with about 100 other Devils fans because there was no where else to go. It will certainly be a lot cooler if we ever win one in Newark.

Montreal is coming together at the right time but in fairness, without realignment for this year, they wouldn't even be in the playoffs. Pitt, Wash, Carolina, NYI, Toronto, Bos, Tampa and Florida would have been the Eastern Conference teams with Rangers finishing 9th. The Flyers were also one point back of MTL with them essentially quitting for the last few weeks. I imagine if they were still playing for a spot, they would have managed another point or two.

I think he's probably most passionate about the fact that this all but guarantees that he's keeping his job but yeah, that's pretty cool.
