  1. Has anyone ever actually had “pork roll” that wasn’t the Taylor Ham brand? It’s as mythical as the Jersey Devil.
  2. Yeah our 7th OA pick just became way more important. If we had 7 and 10 then we could take some chances but now we have to go BPA. I’m not completely sold on Drysdale or Sanderson so if someone like Rossi is still there I think we have to put organizational needs aside. It also makes me really hope Askarov slides a lot.
  3. Az/Van conference finals confirmed. Maybe we trade up with those two picks.
  4. I think they over achieved a bit. Neither Pan or Zib had a very good play in. I’m willing to cut them some slack because of the break but I think they’ll regress a little. Also maybe Ruff running their D was actually a big part of why their defenders like Fox and D’Angelo scored so much. If their defenders aren’t scoring it will affect the whole team’s production.
  5. I feel like their season was very reminiscent of ours a couple of years ago when Hall won the Hart. I expect them to regress next year.
  6. Same. Went into it hoping they would beat the Canes so they couldn’t get Laf, quickly realized I just can’t root for them. Ever.
  7. So apparently Goose won’t have to be protected either way so we’re free to re-sign him whenever without worrying about it. We can also sign someone like Dadonov or Hoffman this off-season and we’ll be able to protect them. But if we sign a defenseman as a free agent then the decision gets a little trickier. Then we have to decide between Butcher, Severson, or Subban to expose. We could always go the other route and protect 8 skaters (defenseman or forwards) and a goalie. That is if we sign a defender and want to protect 4 of them for whatever reason.
  8. What I meant by signing Zajac to expose him was an agreement made between him and management to expose him but even then it might be seen as disrespectful. He’s already 35 at this point though so I’m not sure hanging onto him is really a good idea either way.
  9. Might seem a little premature right now but this off-season should be pretty important for us to make some big move regarding the expansion draft. As of now we don’t really even have anyone to expose to Seattle. I’m assuming the rules will be the same as the Vegas expansion draft and that we’ll be protecting 7 forwards, 3 defense men, and a goalie. Guys like Hughes, Boqvist, and Smith should be exempt from the draft and Palmieri and Goose are UFA’s so unless we re-sign then before the draft they should be exempt too. These are the rules from the Vegas expansion draft so we can probably assume they’ll be the same... https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nbcsports.com/washington/washington-capitals/rules-2017-nhl-expansion-draft-date-time-whos-eligible-how-watch%3famp 2017 NHL EXPANSION DRAFT SUMMARY OF RULES: - All 30 current NHL teams must submit a Protected List of players to the NHL by Saturday, June 17 at 5 p.m. ET - Either include a list of seven forwards, three defensemen, and one goaltender OR eight skaters (forwards/defensemen) and one goaltender - Players with a "No Movement" clause must be protected if the player does not waive the clause - First and second-year professional players and unsigned draft picks are not eligible for the expansion draft and won't need to be protected - All other players are eligible for the Expansion Draft - The entire NHL is under a 'roster freeze.' No trades, no waivers until after the Golden Knights' roster is created - Protected lists are sent to all 31 teams on Sunday, June 18. Golden Knights are allowed to interview eligible players. - Las Vegas must submit a list of 30 players to the NHL by Wednesday, June 21 at 10 a.m. - Golden Knights must select one player from each current NHL team - 30-man roster must include 14 forwards, nine defensemen, and three goaltenders - 20 players must be under contract for the 2017-18 season - Salaries of the players selected must combine to be between 60 and 100 percent of the salary cap's upper limit So basically that leaves us protecting: Forwards: Hischier Zacha Bratt Wood ? ? ? Defense: Subban Butcher Severson Goalie: Blackwood Exposed: Schneider and McLeod. I’m probably missing some names here. We could protect guys like Joey Anderson, Janne Kuokkanen, or Nicholas Merkley or we could try to lock Palmieri and Goose early. And do we re-sign Zajac at this point? I’m guessing he probably wants to finish out in NJ but he might follow Lou for his last couple of years. Then we could possibly take someone from another team who has to be protected for good assets. Lot’s of questions to be asked like do we bother exposing Subban at that point? He’ll only have one year left on his contract and it’s not hindering us in any way. Seattle would almost definitely take him but maybe he turns things around under the new management/coaching staff. Do we sign Zajac to an extension with the intentions of exposing him to Seattle? What does your expansion draft protection/exposure list look like?
  10. I just checked the score on the nhl app. Not watching. But still, screw Hynes.
  11. Personally I don’t believe he’s still there at 17 and I don’t think we’d get anyone near his quality in this draft. I like Blackwood as much as everyone else but he still has a lot to prove to be considered a number 1. Not only that but there are theories that in today’s nhl you need a 1a/1b to be successful. If we do happen to get him at 17 I’d consider that a huge win.
  12. I’m starting to think we should use the Az pick (if it remains 10) to draft Askarov. If we could walk away with Rossi or Sanderson with the 7th and then Askarov at 10 I’d be very happy. Then maybe Quinn falls to 17 if we get that pick.
  13. I think they own one of Carolina’s first round picks too but fortunately it will be the later of the two picks Carolina has (their own and Toronto’s). I got scared for a second that even if they beat Carolina then they’d just have their pick at 1st OA. https://www.nhl.com/rangers/news/rangers-acquire-a-first-round-pick-in-2020-nhl-entry-draft/c-315487218 The first-round pick the Rangers receive from Carolina will be the later selection of the two first-round picks that the Hurricanes own (either Carolina's own first-round pick or Toronto's first-round pick).
  14. Now we have to hope the rags beat Carolina in the play ins? I guess it’s better than them having a chance to win 1st OA. I don’t think they’ll go very far in the playoffs but you never know. Who knows how well any of the playoff teams will be playing at this point.
  15. Could be to run the analytics for the entire HBSE group (Devils, Sixers, their soccer team, and potentially Mets).
  16. So what about the next pics depending on where they land? If the Vancouver pick stays at 17 should we trade it for immediate defensive help or say Askarov is still on the table do we draft him and have a future 1a/1b situation with Blackwood and Askarov? Does anyone think he’ll still even be on the board at 17? I’ve seen Devils fans suggest we trade at least one of the two remaining picks after the 7th for defensive help but I just think I’d rather use the picks to draft.
  17. Well one thing I do appreciate is that Marty is definitely taking his time getting to the role. He’s working in several different positions from assistant GM of a soon to be Stanley Cup winning team to the business side of things. I think if he’s ready to take over one day he should be pretty prepared with all of the different types of experience he’s getting.
  18. Apparently his role was changed to or expanded to Advisor to Hockey Operations after Shero was canned. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.nytimes.com/2020/01/13/sports/hockey/devils-shero-fired.amp.html I think he eventually gets the role of GM but he said for now his kid is settled in in St. Louis so that’s where he spends most of his time.
  19. Not that I really care at this point but did they say if Nas was staying on as an assistant or is Lindy hiring his own crew?
  20. From what I understand Ruff runs a pretty entertaining brand of hockey which is what I think ownership is looking for. Gotta get asses on those seats so they can stop comping so many of them.
  21. Well this could be Fitz’s first bad move. We’ll see I guess. There are worse options than Ruff. I think the other options out there make this disappointing but maybe he’ll work out.
