  1. I keep thinking to myself, "This is going to be wierd watching a game I don't know the outcome of..." -Dan

    Rheaume

Didn't he basically say, "I wanted to come back, it was my agent that screwed it up." after last season? -Dan
  3. If I'm understanding this right... The Devils can be over the cap if they bring in a player to replace an injured player. If that's the case, Lou can say AlMo is in for Elias and since he signed under Elias's figure than it's OK. The problem comes when Elias is ready to come back and we need to fit both under the cap. I guess it would be bye-bye to a few players... Or am I just crunching it to fit what I'd like? -Dan
  4. I can't stop thinking he's got Pontiac emblems on his shins... Definitely, um, different... -Dan
  5. Is Rheaume still around? I know he came back, but is he UFA now? That'll be 21. I see a number 9 in his future... Maybe 21 for Suglobov if he's called up if Rheaume isn't back. -Dan
  6. It's going to be interesting who steps up and assumes control. For the first time in over 2 decades there isn't a definitive leader. No Stevens. No Daneyko. No Niedermayer. I have faith that someone will truly take the reigns and take a leadership role. Will it be Madden? Elias? I think Madden, but who knows. It's definitely going to be an interesting transition. -Dan
  7. So, in effect, we may be well below the cap and not even know it yet. Some big money players had some bad years, so maybe that's Lou's thinking-process. -Dan
  8. To add to that question... (sorry for the coattail ride) Can the owners now take the players to arbitration? Say Friesen for example? Just curious. -Dan
  9. I think there is a law saying that the person owed can legally refuse payment in pennies for amounts over 25c. I think I read it in a stupid facts book years ago. So, by that reasoning, not illegal to do it, but you may be carrying those pennies round-trip. -Dan
  10. There's no way I will root for the Nieders. I've never really respected Scott in his dealings and he's always seemed a little aloof on the ice. He's never been FOR NJ. He's always been ON NJ. I know he's a great talent but there's a lot of talent still on the team (granted much of it undeveloped). And, honestly, could anyone see Lou signing Rob for 2m. a year? For that price and to add a third checking center to the lineup just seems very un-Lou-like. We're not dead. We've got a LOT of trade bait and with the cap, there's going to be some teams who would be willing to dump some salary over time. Personally, though, I think we could make a run with just some minor tweaks. This team was built, starting from a few years ago, for the removal of the red line. We've got some serious speedy forwards out there (one reason I feel Freeze is still here). I'm just anxious to see how Scott copes with the West Coast travel and how much of a toll it takes on his 32yr. old legs. Let's face it, he's not getting any younger and he can only get slower (and more injury prone). F' Nieder (both of them - Rob just by association)! Go Devils! -Dan
  11. When I saw the auction, all that popped in my head was the opening scene in Blues Brothers... -Dan
  12. Just be glad it's not something else he "used"... -Dan
  13. I don't think the teams would give out the "real players" numbers. I would think they would keep them open in case the player crossed. -Dan
  14. DUH! Animal House! TK - Correct! Shawshank Redemption -Dan
  15. Don - Aliens & Ghostbusters Derek - Tommy Boy ciyenne - Galaxy Quest Here's mine: "I had to go to prison to become a crook." "I do the cha-cha like a sissy girl..." "Guess you won't be attending that hat convention in July!" "Knock knock." "Go fvck youself" "Who's Lou?!?" -Dan
  16. Education is an expense, not an investment. An investment brings money back. -Dan
  17. It wouldn't be taking much business from the garden, and even if it was, it's going to be 4 times as big, so that's a lot more $$ per year anyway. I don't get the idea that just because the stadium would get the business instead of another venue that that would spell doom for the city. It's going to be the biggest venue in the city, that means more revenue and more going to the city. The other venues will be fine. There's enough business to go around and the event will dictate where they go. You asked that just because it's empty now, does that justify sinking in a ton of money just to fill it. YES! It's some of the most prime real estate in the world and putting in a constant money maker would just make sense. If you look at commercial rentals, the areas around the Javits right now are around $15/sqft.. Go 3 block East and the rents triple. If you add a community center, it will raise rents in the area and that does mean more money for the city. Not to mention the new jobs in the area for the community. Putting the money into schools and services is fine, but the money will run out (quicker than you think). It's not an investment; the stadium is. -Dan
  18. So Giants stadium only has events 16 times a year? You figure how many concerts Giants Stadium gets and add 1/2 to it (Winter events). Plus, if any band had a choice of playing the Meadowlands or NYC, what do you think they would choose? There's so much potential to a stadium in the city. Take a walk around the area and see what's there now, generating basically no revenue. It's a rail-yard, the Javits, a few parking lots and some pretty empty buildings. There's really not much else for a few blocks. -Dan
  19. If you look at the surrounding area, it's a hole. There's half-empty, ex-sweatshops and empty lots. The minute the stadium goes in, property values grow. New businesses and developers move in and create a new economic landscape with new buildings and renovations of the old. If you say that the new stadium won't bring in new funds, you need to look at the big picture. The stadium itself won't generate the massive income, the surrounding area will through taxes. The city doesn't necessarily NEED it, but it's definitely beneficial to the growth of the city as a whole. Like I said before, you can take that 600 million and pay for services and schools for a few years... OR you can take that money and create something that will continue to generate revenue for years to come. -Dan (ps - And I do find it a little scary that I'm agreeing with 7 on this)
  20. The 600 or so million dollars could be spent two ways: - Pay for Schools, Police, Fire, etc. for two years or so, then be gone. - Help build a stadium in one of the most neglected parts of Manhattan and increase property values and bring in new taxes for years to come. Right now, the area surrounding where the stadium would be is basically empty. There are a few industrial buildings partially occupied, but no real meat. With the new stadium, the surrounding area would get a boost of commercial business and the gain right there would pay for the stadium and then some in less than a decade. Not to mention the Olympics and Super Bowl (something I heard today). Using the money for schools would be great for now, but in a few years, we'd be right back in the same situation. Using the money for the stadium would bring money in for the city for years. The stadium is vital for the city and the West Side. -Dan
  21. Internet Explorer probably runs so slow because you're running it on a Mac. I know it sounds like a Duh answer, but let me explain. With Windows since NT4.0 SP4 (I think) IE has been embedded in the OS. So most of the code is already loaded into memory, or in quickly loaded DLLs. That's also why a lot of the security updates update IE code. With the new Win OSs (Win2K and XP), the same UI code that runs IE basically runs Explorer. On a Mac, it all has to be loaded one piece at a time. I've been a firm Mac hater for the past 10 years. We used to have 2 at work and we're down to 1 collecting dust in the back. Never really had too much experience with OSX, though. From the comments here, I don't think I want to. -Dan

  24. Feb 13th would give us 11 weeks until "playoffs" (my cutoff was the 1st week of May). 3-4 games a week, that's 39 games. 28 of those could be against the rest of the Atlantic (7 games per), leaving 11 games for intra-conference (As close geographically as possible). I could live with that. Personally I don't see a season happening, but we can always hope. -Dan
  25. I have a TV-Video card in my PC. From there I record it into an mpeg. I ran through the dilemma of downsampling it, but I was interested in bulk storage, not quality (mostly Whose Line snippets). Depending on which DVR you have, there may be utilities out there that'll download the moeg to your computer where you could crop out what you needed. -Dan
