  1. U.K.'s Metal Hammer magazine recently conducted an interview with IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson about "Iron Maiden: Flight 666", the feature-length documentary film which follows the IRON MAIDEN bandmembers on the first leg of their "Somewhere Back In Time World Tour" in February and March of 2008. An excerpt from the chat follows below. Metal Hammer: Film
  2. Jim Louvau of The Arizona Republic recently conducted an interview bassist John Campbell of Richmond, Virginia metallers LAMB OF GOD. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below. The Arizona Republic: How does singer Randy Blythe take care of his voice on the road and does he still use the techniques from vocal coach Melissa Cross? John Campbell: Yes, he warms up before we play. He puts on his iPod while we are warming up before the show. There are a million people out there that tell you how to play drums, guitar and bass but there aren't a lot of people out there that actually know what they are talking about when it comes to vocals and she is an expert in the field. The Arizona Republic: What's your relationship like with Epic Records? John Campbell: It's great. We just put out a record that debuted at No. 2 so I think they are pretty happy with us. I think that charting that well pretty much guarantees that they will pick us up for the next option, which basically means we can keep doing this as a job. The Arizona Republic: Collectively, your catalog has sold close to 2 million records with little radio support. Are you surprised that metal is doing so well? John Campbell: Metal is definitely back and it has been creeping back for some time now with bands like SLIPKNOT selling the crap out of some records. So we're not the first and only but we are definitely in a relatively small group of metal bands that are selling records. The Arizona Republic: Do you think your headlining slot on the 2006 Ozzfest had a lot to do with your success? John Campbell: Absolutely. I think that we have been very lucky to strategically pull off some tours that ended up helping us. We also did Ozzfest 2004 before that and I think that was great for us too. The Arizona Republic: How big of a part do you feel the Internet played in exposing your music to fans in the beginning? John Campbell: It was absolutely everything. We were five dudes who in 1994 decided to start a metal band because metal sucked at the time and there were only a handful of bands putting out anything that was worth a (expletive). Our music got attention on MP3.com, which caught the attention of Prosthetic Records in 2000. The Arizona Republic: How do you feel about people illegally downloading your music? John Campbell: There are some legalities to it but as an artist, having your art being spread around to as many people as possible is actually pretty beneficial. We are here to make records not sell them. That's the record company's job and the industry is changing dramatically from a time when I think maybe they were making a little bit too much money. Labels are scrambling to re-organize and figure out what it means to be a record label in the Internet age. 3. British rockers HEAVENS BASEMENT will release a self-titled EP on April 20 to coincide with their mammoth tour of the U.K. Produced by Bob Marlette (BLACK STONE CHERRY, AIRBOURNE, SHINEDOWN, SALIVA), the four-song EP was laid down in five days. Commented guitarist Jonny Rocker: "We can't wait to get back out on the road; it's where we feel we belong. We've enjoyed playing some of the bigger supports recently but getting back into the smaller clubs where the audience becomes part of the energy and the show is what we do it for." HEAVEN'S BASEMENT is Richie Hevanz (Vocals) Sid Glover (Lead Guitar) Jonny Rocker (Rhythm Guitar) Chris Rivers (Drums) Rob Randell (Bass) For more information, visit www.myspace.com/heavensbasementofficial.
  4. Can't believe I never heard "Dancing On Glass" by Motley Crue.
  5. Wow!!! I remember those shirts from 100 years ago when I worked at the Metal Lands. When the Dead came to the stadium their fans started showing up days in advance and camped out there. I think one of their tours overlapped with the playoffs and people were selling these. I am pretty sure these were bootleg shirts and not sold by the arena vendors. But I am gonna look into this.
  6. I would have liked to see a team pick him up. Good luck Jim. On the radio it sounded as if he will become a broadcaster. So he will be still part of the game. But remember Ozzy Osbourne retired also.
  7. As far as puck to net I give a bit of a pass for the injury. Even when returning that injury will affect your game. It sounds as if Roslton expects his numbers to improve cause he is feeling better and getting his game back. The concerning part seems to be he was not playing the team's system according to Sutter. I don't recall seeing him blasting his canon from the point on the PP too much, which was stated as part of his role. That could be the entire PK unit not working or that could be him. But now his play his the formally discussed in the media some sort of a response should be noticed.
  8. We could and should recognize our opponents for talent. Even if we hate them. It helps know what our team is in for. (But the Rangers suck!!!!) They had the Rags at 20 with the following comment: According to his paycheck, Redden is supposed to be anchoring this unit, but he hasn't been particularly effective, so the Rangers' fate this year may depend on whether the young guys, Staal and Girardi, can rise to the occasion. There is no shortage of experience otherwise, as Morris, Mara and Rozsival have all been around the block a few times.
  9. 9. NEW JERSEY DEVILS Paul Martin Johnny Oduya Niclas Havelid Colin White Cumulative TSN.ca Rating: 301.09 Bryce Salvador Mike Mottau Andy Greene Cumulative TSN.ca Rating: 207.26 Comment: While the Devils lack the big-name workhorse that they had in the days of Scott Stevens and Scott Niedermayer, the unit has been quietly effective, with Oduya, Martin, White and Mottau all better than plus-20 on the season. Top 10 are: 1. BOSTON BRUINS 2. SAN JOSE SHARKS 3. DETROIT RED WINGS 4. CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS 5. PITTSBURGH PENGUINS 6. CAROLINA HURRICANES 7. WASHINGTON CAPITALS 8. NASHVILLE PREDATORS 9. NEW JERSEY DEVILS 10. VANCOUVER CANUCKS
  10. Agreed. Plus, they are doing it without Elias. Slightly similar to pulling together while Marty was out.
  11. I'm not a Havelid hater, but I would rather scratch him. Him and Leach give us depth, but I like the D with Greene on the ice.
  12. Quick bathroom story having nothing to do with Rags. Me & 2 friends. Very drunk Very rowdy at Metal Lands!!! Run to bathroom cause game was on. We are very loud. Bathroom empty. Friend yells yo Tom. I yell while peeing, "Who the f#^k is Tom?!" Turn around to see Chorske at a urinal turning around looking at me with a laugh and a wave. I go, "Oh....hey Tom." Zip up fly and make it to seat for the next shift.
  13. Just saw the movie last night and noticed it. At first you see the back of the guy, so I immediately mentioned it to my wife expecting it to be a Devs jersey. Thought it was cool for them to throw that in. The movie takes place in mid - southern jersey, so it added to the story a bit.
  14. If Pando was up while Rupp was sitting a game he could still have been playing a little tense trying to be affective and impress Sutter. Unfortunately, Elias is hurt. But that means he knows he is up for a few games. So maybe the first few he was able to play relaxed and his head was straight. Now that this line is getting recognized by the coach, Rupp may be worried when Pat gets better. I am glad Mad Dog and Pando are back together. During the skid some games were getting ridiculous with shots on goal against the Devs. Besides the Malkin play on Shanny, if you watch the PP goal Crosby tipped in, the replay showed Shanny standing still watching his man taking the shot. Can't remember who it was.
  15. I'm not big on Crosby. He is a crybaby. But that was a good move. I think the hit on Malkin was a bit low. So for any captain already on the ice to respond is a must. Cindy did throw one punch, but missed by a country mile. If connected it would have been as affective as a punch from Dean Youngblood.
  16. I remember prior to '94, walking around with a Devs jersey was like being a Blood surrounded by Crypts. Ranger fans would literally hang out of moving cars to yell and curse at me. Then the '94 season passes and instead of seeing how the Devs have grown to be a real threat, they raised the heat on me and life with a Devs jersey was tough. Devils home games were unpleasant to say the least. Rags fans have little class. Things were ugly. So since '95 I have pay back. I could get in to '97 but I won't. They turned the screws so much I still to this day LOVE when they repeat failure.
  17. Well let's agree to disagree, because now we are comparing a right and wrong time to use a certain chant to game analysis. However, after a few beers I am starting "STOP USING ONLY ONE FORECHECKER, THE OPPONENT'S DEFENSEMEN HAVE BEEN BREAKING OUT OF THEIR OWN ZONE WITH EASE EVER SINCE THE MIDPOINT OF THE FIRST PERIOD" ::clap clap clapclapclap:: chant. Even if the Devs use 2 forecheckers!!!
  18. So The Cats win today and are tied in points with the Rags. I'm torn. I would love the Devs to face them in a playoff round, but it is also sweet if they don't even make it. Panthers face Philadelphia, Atlanta, and Washington. Rangers have Montreal and Philadelphia home and home. It's pretty exciting because Atlanta has been playing well so I see both teams with a 50-50 shot at 9th. 3 point games might be the difference. Thoughts?
  19. Stick to head should be ZERO toleration no matter how small. Add in the fact the hit was from behind AND after a whistle. Besides trying to get under Thomas' skin he is also taunting the league since he was so sternly warned about his behavior. Without even a mention that the issue was reviewed or discussed shows softness of the league or fear of the player's association.
  20. I didn't say you can or can't do a thing. Nor do I care what you do. Go nuts. However, for me personally, I feel yelling thing "You suck" while losing and "Rangers suck" after a loss display am unawareness of what's going on on the ice. So, yeah. I think some relevance shows and understanding of the game. If someone wants to yell any chants regardless of the game situation because they just want to have fun and be silly, even if they make no sense...more power to them. They paid for their ticket and they root for my team. They have the right. So whatever. I just feel if your head's in the game there is a right time and a wrong time for certain chants. I'm wondering who else believe that. The rest of your post is taking the topic to an absurd direction.
  21. Daneyko. And I'll go the other way. Sykora is a prick.
  22. OK. So everyone is all over on that topic. How about this? Tampa was up 2 - 0 and Shanny gets the penalty shot. Rock and Roll Part 2 is played and after "Hey" is everyone's favorite "You Suck!" Ya yelling that after a goal when the Devs are still losing 2 - 1?
  23. I heard it in the hall in the pile waiting to get down the escalators.
  24. At non Ranger games there are always a few blue sweaters in the barn. So I don't mind it. It's our thing. But you gotta get your head in the game when you're losing. Go Big Red!
