Sounds like a truer remark.
We have some crazy Subban sitter Sterio, who cant live with subban`s dirty play, but Smith did slash his own partner. And after Hughes and Mukhamadullin draft, Hamilton sign, Smith must adapt, meet new challenges and requirements.
I didn`t like his skate and his foot work. Everybody make mistakes(ask Severson, he can write the book about it), and I think he is better one on one player this year, but is it enough for him? Is he a player who can play second pair minutes? For now he can`t. Is he will? Is he is a player with his skating and size to play against good second line players?
If he is not top-4 defenseman, do we need in him? I still can`t ask on this question before we will see what Shakir and Luke are as NHL players. I don`t like Smith for now as a concept, but I don`t think he is worser Siegentaler overall. I`m watchin every AHL game now and I think only Okhotiuk is look like a defenseman who may be can try himself in NHL. Bahl is not. He is slow, he makes mistakes with his stick work. So, Smith has his time to develope and grow on himself, but for now he is not in position where he will have every opportunity for trust and for makin high priced mistakes. Devils defense is weakness now, and weknesses must be fixed. There are no more time for "we are young, we are growing as a players and the team". Devils starting to compete, they can not goin to the playoff this year, but they must understand who will play this and that kind of role. And players without clear identity must clear their identity or find a job on the other ship.
I like Sharangovich, but he must do something with his puck work. If he wants to be top-6 player, he must score, if he wants to be bottom six player - he must control. If Smith wants to be top-4 defenseman in the devils organisation - he must to play much better with the puck and under pressure, be a much better blue liner, both I think. He is easy to play against and it`s a big problem.
