RowdyFan42
Normally, public structures are named to honor those who have died or retired from public life. ... unless you're the majority leader in the New York State Senate, in which case you can get a baseball stadium in your home county named after you. point
Banning the practice of naming facilities before politicians were retired or dead comes from the Harrison Williams Train Station in Iselin, when he had to resign the US Senate in the ABSCAM scandal back in the 70s. It has been Metropark ever since.
PeteyNice
The train station in Secaucus is named for Lautenberg who is still one of our Senators. I think this is a nice gesture. It's his hometown and he helped secure cash for it. Better to name it after him than after a corporation.
br_hockey
Why not name it after someone involved with hockey...I mean it is an ice rink right? I think Lamoriello Arena would be a nice thank you, rather than a governor that probably doesn't know the first thing about hockey. I'd much rather honor LL than a politician in the naming of a hockey arena...but thats just me.
