Series over revisited??????????

What I and others are saying is it isnt because they are necesarily a better team, it is because the forwards have disapeared. (not because of a dominant Carolina defense) but for whatever reason Gionta and Gomez have gone AWOL

Well, then you and others aren't watching the same series as I am. Gionta and Gomez have "gone AWOL" because Carolina's team defense has shut them down. Can you say "effective neutral zone trap"? Can you say "blocked shots"? I know I can, and so can Carolina.

You make no sense you just said you agree the Devils defens and goaltending are better?? Then you say how can we talk about Hurricanes not being a better team?? Stop and look at what you wrote. Nobody is saying the Canes havent outplayed us to this point. What I and others are saying is it isnt because they are necesarily a better team, it is because the forwards have disapeared. (not because of a dominant Carolina defense) but for whatever reason Gionta and Gomez have gone AWOL. If the Devils that were coming down the stretch, buzzing the net and playing with energy show up and we still get beat then maybe I will agree. If I see that energy next game and we win, then my point stands. We jjust need to play with energy and purpose!!

Just wanted to say I am new to the forum and that I totally agree. Especially about Gio and Gomer buzzing around the net. They need to do that. To bad we could have Whitey or Jan take an early hard goaltender interference call so Ward's head will be on a swivel. Heck they did it to Marty in the first two. Anyhow I am not giving up hope. I have tickets for Sunday in Carolina. Plus I gave up hope when the Devs went down 3-1 on Philly way back when so I have told myself not to give up on this team. They find strange ways to get things done. So I am hoping for another one of those strange things to happen. Robinson walked out on them when things were dismal and Lou took over and got them to the playoffs. This team relys on soal searching. So lets Go De-Vils.

One other point and I am done. Is it just me or has the officiating in the playoffs not represent the regular season. And I mean they are whistle happy. I feel like one of them has swallowed the whistle and evertime he takes a breath we're in the box. I just do not know how the best displined team gets put in the box so much. I want to see 5 aside hockey. That's how you determine the best team to move on, and only call flagrant stuff. I know we had more powerplay opportunities last game but.... The officials should call game misconducts for diving too.

"On paper" was my key phrase there. You match up the names in net and the names on defense, and you compare to Carolina, and I'll agree -- ON PAPER -- that the Devils appear to be the better team.

But, as far as what takes place out on the ice, c'mon...this series isn't even that close. Okay, the scores of the last two games have been, but the Devils are getting horribly outchances, and Ward's seeing maybe 4-5 quality shots a game. Brodeur's seeing that much in one period alone.

One thing I will agree with is that the Devils need to "buzz around the net," as you say. Personally, I say they have nothing to lose at this point, so knock off the dump-in crap and go hard to that net every time. And what the hell, try to stickhandle through their defense from time to time, just to keep them honest.

But I don't care for this, "We'd be okay if Gionta and Gomez weren't AWOL" nonsense. Carolina's defense has been SMOTHERING. They haven't given the Devils any chance at all of stealing a game. I say it's time we start giving credit to that Carolina defense instead of making excuses.

Well I do not agree that they are the better team. What I will say is that they are getting the lucky breaks right now with crap goals getting in. I am not discounting them because goals are goals. It appears that the first loss put us in a tailspin that we have to manage out of. It's like one thing goes wrong and then a domino effect occurs. We outplayed them in game two, but came up short. Last game seemed even to me, but again we came up short. Their are so many could be's with this series that you can not count them out. I know these are could of, would of, should of's but this series could be 2-1 devils or 2-1 carolina. Its just like our 15 game streak when things are rolling in your corner you feel unstopable. Look at the last game against Montreal this season. We were down by a ton and just came back. The domino effect. We need that to change Saturday. One win at a time. Lets Go De-Vils.

We outplayed them in game two, but came up short.

You and I must have been watching a different game. The Devils outplayed them for one period. After the first, that game was ALL Carolina.

I know there have been some lucky bounces (game one, primarily), but I find it hard to believe so many of us are willing to chalk this series up to bad breaks.

We're being outplayed, people. Plain and simple.

We were most definitely outplayed in the last 20 seconds. :puke:

You are flat out wrong. In Game 2 even though we were out shot we outchanced the canes. It is a fact. So the quality of shots was on our side. Last night we out shot them. So where are they so much superior as you put it. You say it isnt even that close??

Like the Yanks losing to the redsox, it is going to take a Carolina collapse along with heroics from the Devils to get back in win this series. Obviously i know its possible and this same team did run off 15 wins and made a historic come back to win the Atlantic, but i dont know if they have another historic comeback in them. Marty will have to be unbelievable, and Gionta is going to have to get rolling. I just dont want to believe that they are going to win the next game, because every time ive been almost sure we'll win the next one we end up losing.

OK, here goes I felt we were outplayed in game one. No legs, too much time off. Game two we outplayed them, not a domination like they had in game one but we outplayed them. Game three, we outplayed them until the end of the third period where they dominated the neutral zone. We could not even get the puck down their to setup. That's what I saw. But overall game three was even, game two we outplayed them and game one, well we won't even go there, we stunk.

Oh and game 2 was definitely a bad break, and bad calls. Interference on Langs, come on that negated a pp chance for us. That instance should have been diving on I think it was Doug Weight. Goal in overtime was not kicked but he ran into Brodeur, I've seen less contact with goaling interfernce being called. Not that I agree that should have been called but under the circumstance of this game, It should have been a makeup from the Parise goal. Yes Gomer ran into him pretty hard but, the puck was already past him. Gomer blocked his vision puck was going in reguardless. No need for OT if that counts.

You and I will not see eye-to-eye on this, my friend.

First period, yes, the Devils had excellent chances. But, my God, you mean to tell me that while being outshot 30-9 over the second period, third period and overtime, they were still taking it to the Canes? Blows my mind, man. I simply can't believe that.

The Devils have NOT been competitive this series, in my opinion. If you see it different, so be it.

Here's my rationale for how this series isn't even close...

1) 0-3 hole

2) Outscored 12-4

If that's not enough evidence, I don't know what is.

NJCROMAG, please please explain where Carolina is a better team?? Defense?? I dont think so, Goaltending no, I will give you they have good depth at forward, but we have 3 solid lines as well. I say the Goalie hasnt played as well as he is capable, the forwards have been invisible for the bulk of the first 3 games

That doesnt mean Carolina is a better team, just they came in hungrier, and wanting it more.

But again I say this series isnt over until the 4th win by Carolina!!!!!

I think Carolina is a better team in one place....Behind the bench. I love Lou but I don't think he has the coaching experience needed to get a team through a bad stretch like this. Thats what sucks about the playoffs...3 bad games and you feel that you are sunk....

1 game at a time, if we can just get it to the point of a 6th game where we are looking to tie the series..

Carolina's coach NEVER bothered me when he was in NYI but some of the comments hes made this series, what an a-hole

You're right we probably will not see eye to eye.

Outscored because of game one. How many of those goals are pp goals? How many 5 on 3's did they have? My buddy who is a Habs fan heard the pp goal statistic for carolina going into game three and was beside himself. The NHL would have never allowed this, but we all have to adjust to the new style. How come we were the most displined team throughout the season but, cannot do it now. Carolina has a run of luck just like we did to finish up. We have to find a way to break that momentum even if we outplay them because they will find a way, and that is what they did.

Quality scoring chance count to, not just shots on goal. And we all know Carolina is throwing the puck to the net to see if good things happen. Fortunately for them it has.

0-3 hole like I said early in a post easily could be 2-1 or 1-2.

Didnt want to start a new thread...

Thats 1, now come on guys lets keep the faith. Tomorrow we need a repeat performance, same intensity, same goaltending performance, and same discipline to stay out of the box (for the most part). And hey just believe!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It's a 3-1 series now, and the Devils have proven they can come back from 3-1 in the past. Doesn't matter how it got to 3-1.

So true Puddy so true. the fact is they did it in the ECF even more pressure. I have to say with Marty in net if he plays like he did today they have a shot to bring it back to NJ for game 6!!! But that being said the forwards were buzzing all over the net today getting to the loose pucks hustle and intensity. They need to duplicate that as well. Hey like you said at 3 - 1 anything can happen!!

yep

So true. Ever since the being down 3-1 to Philly, I am a believer. Got to love it. I am headed to RBC for tonights game. Lets Go De-Vils. And to put it all into perspective games 2 and 3 could have gone our way. I really think they have a good chance at pulling this off. I missed watching yesterdays game due to a wedding but kept getting score updates from my buddies. I heard they played with a lot of intensity. And even got a shorty by Pandolfo. Sweet.

Truth be told, I know ifs dont mean squat, but if the Canes dont score with 3 secs left I beleive the Devils are up 3 - 1 in this series!! But hey enough of that the bottom line is we played with this team and outplayed them yesterday. It is time to shoy Saturday was not just the Canes letting us win 1. Need to get to Ward again early and often!! Chase him today and boys (and girls) anything can happen.
