Caps C Lang, Devils G Brodeur named NHL Players of Month

December 2, 2003

NEW YORK (Ticker) - Washington Capitals center Robert Lang, who led all NHL scorers with 22 points, on Tuesday was named the NHL Offensive Player of the Month.

Lang collected points in each of his 14 games and owned a plus-8 rating. Earning a point on 45 percent of his team's goals in November, he has a 15-game points-scoring streak - the longest this season and the longest by a Capitals player since Peter Bondra's 15-game run in 1997-98. It is two games shy of the club record set twice by Mike Gartner, most recently in 1984-85.

Lang edged Vancouver Canucks left wing Markus Naslund, who had five goals and 17 assists in 14 games, for the award.

The Defensive Player of the Month is New Jersey Devils goaltender Martin Brodeur, who held the opposition to one goal or fewer in seven of 12 starts and was 8-1-3 with a 1.30 goals-against average, .943 save percentage and three shutouts.

Brodeur helped the Devils record a 13-game unbeaten streak (10-0-3) from October 28-November 26 - the longest in the NHL this season.

Colorado Avalanche goaltender David Aebischer, who was 8-2-1 with a 2.44 GAA and one shutout, was runner-up for the award.
