i dont know about chicago... it would strap them like crazy, i think they learned to managed their cap better... plus they'd have to pay him more than kane and toews... not too sure we'd see that happen, plus its not as if they need more scoring really, but if you can fit zach on your team i guess you do it

See, here's the kind of BS that happens in journalism with these kinds of stories. Rich Chere publishes his original report to the Star-Ledger, which I linked to earlier, and then 2 hours later James O'Brien over at NBC Sports writes a piece using Parise's “I think in my situation you have to look down the road,” just... slightly... out of context in order to come up with something a tad bit more exciting sounding while being able to say that it's not intentionally misleading. Of course he leaves out the remainder of the quote, where he talks about how "we should’ve won." in previous seasons, and acknowledging that his dad is right about his loyalty while mistaken about his thinking that he would have gotten out earlier in the season (“There is no way he meant this year. He had to have meant last year,”)

Look, any of these teams could make space, it just depends on the next CBA. The Rangers could easily wind up trading Brandon Dubinsky somewhere and that opens up enough room for Zach if they cut corners in places. The Hawks could deal Michael Frolik and they have a ton of room now. But I suspect that when the next CBA comes, the cap is going to be a little tighter - the players will have the choice of greater rollbacks and a higher cap or fewer rollbacks and a lower cap, and they'll take the latter.

anyways... bottom line is, im pretty sure if Lou could come up with the right deal and propose it to Zach in the next few weeks, Zach would sign it. I dont think Zach would wait til July 1st to see whats out there.

but the more he's waiting the more Zach could decide to wait... especially if Lou's waiting 'til the end of the season

its just pissing me off to hear "We will do everything we can to have him be here."

i mean.... WTF !?!?!?!?! YOURE DOING SWEET fvck ALL RIGHT NOW !!! WHY WAIT TO BEGIN TALKS!!?!?!

Lou said the same thing about Alexander Mogilny and others through the years. Can't take much from what Lou says...the track record shows he keeps some free agents and he loses some, but he doesn't lose quite as many as some make it out to be, and doesn't get enough credit for the ones he hangs on to...whether you like Kovy or not, did anyone ever imagine Lou would ever go to the lengths that he did to keep him, even seemingly bidding against himself? Same with Nieds...yes, he left, but Lou went all-out trying to bring him back, offering the max at that time for several years. And as we've seen, some of the "biggies" that have gotten away (Holik, Gomez, Gionta) haven't shown themselves to be worth what they received on the open market.

I'm not pissed cause i think he won't be able to make it happen or wtv... i dont care about his % of success either. im pissed cause Lou is playing EXTREMELY RISKY games or acting old school for wtv reasons, and he SHOULDNT play with fire with Zach, not even a SECOND.

I agree with Colorado. Lou is one of the best because he doesn't get all crazy about these things. He knows how important Parise is, and I'm certain that he is and will do whatever is required to resign him. He's gotta be happy with Parise's attitude and statements to the media throughout all of this as well.

One additional thing to keep in mind here is that Zach has an agent. If you were Zach's agent, would you be talking to Lou right now? We're fans, so we have our perspective, but just remember that these are actual people that we're talking about, not trading cards and monopoly money.

I guess my only point is that stressing out over this, at this point in time, is rather useless and somewhat counter productive. I'll admit to my part in contributing to the problem as well, in that I'm talking about it too. Getting all pissed about it and screaming criticisms on a forum, blog, or news comments isn't going to do anything other than make you crazy.

I touched on this in the other thread...in ways, this is why Zach in an impossible situation when it comes to commenting on his situation. Everyone from fans to journalists are going to try to pick apart his every last word to try to get some insight into his mindset. How can he win? I think he's trying to be as honest as he can, but at the same time he's probably better off not giving anyone anything to run with.

I don't even think Zach knows what he wants, and who could blame him if he doesn't? Or wants to test the market? It's his right, and it's the first time in his career that he'll have complete say in where he's going to play. The Devils chose him; he didn't choose them. He does seem happy here overall, but if he thinks he can be happier somewhere else, it's his right to go there. This opportunity doesn't come up too often in player's life, especially one like Parise...chances are he's signing long-term wherever he goes, with a contract that will take him through his prime years and then some, so I wouldn't expect him to take this decision lightly. In some ways, unless he's head-over-heels in love with the Devils organization, can look past the team's financial issues, and is sure his best chance to win a Cup will come as a Devil, I think he'd alomst be doing himself an injustice by not seeing what else is out there first.
