I know this is offseason hope.. but damn... it would be something that this guy make the team and show his talent !

Big hopes are what being a fan's all about. Here's a copy of a post I made on the Devils Usenet board in 1999:

Look, the Devils have a good chance of winning the cup in the next few years

with the team they already have but they also have the components to a

dynasty if their farm system is all that its cracked up to be... Lets see:

Van Ryn- if he can effectively soothe the loss of scott stevens then we got

something going here...

Gionta- the next theoren fleury? doubtful but if he can live up to half of

his expectations then we're looking good...

Gomez- from what i hear he is a great setup man and can score on his own as

well... possibly good to put with gionta and an enforcer on a top line....

Morrison- i'll allow you your own opinions here....

J.F. Damphousse- If he's the next brodeur or even close than we are set...

Madden- looks good but needs nhl time to gain confidence...

Dagenais- info on this guy would be helpful but he sounds good so far...

Berglund- the speed he brings is welcome and if he can put the biscuit in

the basket that wold be nice too...

Benoit- supposedly a true smiper through and through and that would be a

wlecome thing on a line of passers like gomez and gionta... has some size

and  if he gets stronger we may see him soon...

Vyshedkevich- another name leaving opponents to crack their teeath over

while finding themselves skating in this guys snow... if he's half as good

as they say he is we've got another niedermayer... has a great shot too and

can man a powerplay....

White- can we say DANEYKO?

any comments?

Of the names listed Van Ryn never played a single game with the Devils, Berglund and Dagenais washed out really quickly, I don't even remember who Benoit or Vyshedkevich were and Damphousse's big contribution was being a throw-in part of the Friesen, Tverdovsky trade.

NewarkDevil5, it's fun to readd this after all these years...

But i will hope for something slighty different .. something that will be good for my ego.

I will copy my message about Blandisi and paste them in 10 years after our 3 new Stanley Cups... and i will just say " See... I told you so "

Hopefully Sestito will be the Head Coach around this time... That will gave me another round of jokes.

Im sorry i didnt come over here and post, that first response from Devil X is me over on HFBoards.  I should have posted it here as well.

Thanks for those posts! I'm surprised neither of them mentioned Santini. I wonder how he did today.

Santini didnt really do that much at the 3v3.  In those situations they clearly favor smaller faster players.  This bigger more physical players showed some skill but you can see being able to play on a full sheet of ice will work better for them.  Im going to the scrimmage on Saturday I'll make sure to come and post some thoughts on the players after that as well.

Disappointed with Boucher so far.

He seemed to want to pass a lot during the 3v3.  I didnt see him shoot the puck once, very odd for someone like him.  I did see him throw a couple of shoulders and knocked someone on their ass once.  He did have a slight physical aspect to his game during the 3v3 I didnt really see that much before.

I wouldn't put much stock in a 3 on 3 scrimmage.

Yea, your right.  I mean the best players in the 3v3 were pretty much unknown forwards and Blackwood.  But its good to get your eyes on these guys we dont normally see. If gives you a better understanding of their size, skating ability, shot, and things like that.

As an example, Miles Wood is much bigger then people realize, he has good speed and strength.  A hard shot and was in the middle of a lot of his teams chances.  I was impressed by him and what he was bring out there.  Its something i wouldnt have known if i didnt get the chance to see him myself.
