  1. Hate to disagree... the problem when madden & Pando go in 2 -1 and madden has the puck.... the Dmen cover the pass 100% they want madden to shoot becasue they have been told the goalie will make a save 95% of the time. there was a game abotu 2 weeks ago...madden and pando in on a 2-1 madden w/ the pcuk...he wanted to pass so badly...waited and waited anwaited, and then skated the pouck right into the goalies pad, never even shot!!! it was pathetic!!! The funny part about this is people used to prevent Madden from shooting at all costs, given that he was the only scoring threat on a 2-on-1 with Pando
  2. Including those Hartford Whaler-like jerseys they wore against the Rangers?
  3. Well that's really the way it's supposed to be. Mihkailov (sp?) was in his early 30's at that point. The Russians were amateurs in name only
  4. Well all in all I suppose it wasn't a bad night, with the Devils apparently getting the Newark deal done at last and getting on WFAN for next year. Of course the game sucked oh well
  5. Even if they sign a contract and start breaking ground on the arena? Hell if nothing else that alone would mean we could at least shut this folder down for the time being
  6. Why is Larionov playing? Devs already down 1-0, Henrik Sedin scores...sheesh.
  7. Ah...since I listen to the radio maybe two times a year I didn't realize it.
  8. If this is Bobby when he's NOT detonated then I CAN'T WAIT for the explosion!

    WFAN 660

Well he doesn't feel that way about the Yankees anymore. It is hard to believe a Ranger fan would root for the Islanders before the Devils, though. He does have some CLASSIC anti-Ranger rants when they bite the dust though
  10. Well the Devils may get bumped by whatever on WFAN but they already get bumped at times for the Yankees on ABC. Definitely good news...more exposure. BTW, I've merged all the topics into this thread.
  11. Well Derek's back in front...but the real news right now is DM's surge from the cellar to third place. Wow, the comeback kid just keeps going. Overall, the admins are pretty well represented in the top five with me, DM and RD...heh.

Yeah well what does anyone expect...they almost never have any hockey talk on that show so I don't expect them to be all that knowledgeable about it to begin with. That said, I'd take Marty over Richter simply because he's been more consistent. Sure Richter didn't have the best team in his later years but even when he had a pretty good team he was a little on-and-off (his '95 season after the Cup win in '94 for one). And as for Richter facing more shots on goal, well we've seen how meaningless that stat can be in the last three games. A ton of goalies say it's actually easier to face more shots. What Richter did was step up for the big games. He did that well enough that until the last couple of years I would have said I'd take Richter over Marty in a one-game situation (and only then). Of course the gold medal, the Vezina and a gritty Cup win moved Marty up to the point where he belongs in the Roy, Hasek company.
  13. Geez, first Schastivy was gonna go for Bondra, now he goes for essentially a goon defenseman? I know Ottawa wants to get tougher but gosh, these defensemen really are going for an arm and a leg this year (well except for Sydor amazingly enough, Tampa made a GREAT trade on that one).

    Number 3

Well the Ranger$ are going to have five numbers retired as soon as Leetch and Baldy reach the end of the line.
  15. It'd actually be pretty amazing if the Wild made the playoffs this year. They've gotten nothing out of Gaborik or Dupuis and lost Ronning, those three were like their leading scorers last year.

    Devils

dj, your info is as far behind as your website. McMullen sold the team in 2000 for crying out loud.
  17. Yup - the ONLY similarity between Mike Richter night and Ken Daneyko night is both teams bit the dust in the game. Some people might say the Rangers OVERdid it, in fact. I don't think they did but even if they did I'd much MUCH rather 'overdo' it when honoring a player that meant that much to the team as opposed to having the second-rate ceremony that we did for Dano.
  18. Geez, 26 people are pro-Newark in this poll and 5 pro-CAA. The other poll is 16 for Newark and 8 for CAA. I guess there isn't as much Newark bias as everyone would think.
  19. stubbs you're not going to get anywhere labeling fans that don't go to games lazy. Especially on this site, because most of the fans here are either season-ticket holders, go to a lot of games, or are diehards that physically or monetarily can't go to a lot of games. I should hardly expect you to understand that, though...well till another few years anyway, then maybe you'll get it. One of these days when you make your own money - probably not very much at first - and you have to work 8-4 or 9-5, and shell out $1000-$2500 for season tickets then you can tell everyone how 'lazy' they are for not shelling out that kind of money and spending that kind of time on entertainment. Hell a lot of Devils fans have a commute that's almost an hour or more than an hour in addition to all that...you don't have to deal with that. The only 'lazy' fans IMO are those that have a LOT of money (to the point where $2500 is a drop in the bucket), are a VERY short (15 minutes or less) distance from the arena, are a hockey fan, and don't go to a lot of games. But I seriously doubt you'll find ANYone on the site that fits that description or a lot of people in general that fit that description. So I'm just warning you, cut it out before you completely lose the respect of everyone here, if you haven't already done so.
  20. That's all well and good but it doesn't mean squat when you're buying a team...all prospective owners want to look at is the bottom line. What are prospective owners going to look at when they see the Devils...a team that's losing money in its current location and a team with no other arena plan in sight if the Newark thing falls through. 95% of businessmen (at least) are going to conclude that it's not good business to stay in New Jersey. ESPECIALLY with a winning team, they can sell out some other city in no time.
  21. Its not the only way, I don't know why you guys keep saying that.... Because the majority owner of the Devils, Chambers is from Newark. The Newark Arena is his dream. He wants to revitalize the city. If he can't get the Newark Arena, he'll just sell the team. And there are plenty of other cities that want an NHL team. There weren't a lot of in-state buyers for the Nets.
  22. Yes, but again you probably misread his meaning. When he said it was just politics and was upset, he could have just as easily been upset that the arena was not going through. Of course there is the possibility he could recognize Newark's not perfect but that it's the only sure way to keep the Devils in NJ and Lou wants to keep the Devils here.
  23. The way he came off was that he didn't support it. I think he feels comfortable where he is. Oh really? I've heard Lou say, both last year and recently this year that a renovation at the CAA is not an option. Unless he's talking out of both sides of his mouth he's obviously not in favor of staying where he is.
  24. I don't think he meant it negatively...it was more like they aren't as nervous without him...this is a good thing imo...when he returns it is will be like "there's no place like home"...the team being able to carry itself w/o Stevens shows they will not be in total collapse when he retires and retirement is sooner rather than later...age-wise...he has said that himself. I agree, it's not a negative that they've won 7 of 9 and are getting used to playing without Stevens. I'd be worried if they were still losing. That said, this has been/will be a prolonged absence...since he was ordered off the ice for a month, I can't see him coming back before early March and he's already missed around 15 games.
  25. Boy I'm shocked...SHOCKED that not only was Raf Stevens' replacement but Nieds was the C as well, considering Hitch and Quinn are the co-coaches. I guess Hitch and Quinn have enough egg on their face from bypassing Elias (he's had like a goal a game since the snub) and now want to kiss our butts
