sleepy steve
Anyone have a picture of the old jersey. The one they briefly wore between the christmas jersey and their current one. It was the exact same design as the christmas jersey only with black instead of green. If you do could you post it. thanks.
sundstrom
i don't remember one in between the two. the current devils jersey IS the x-mas tree jersey, just with black instead of green. unless you're talking about the rounded shoulder arms with the green piping? sleepy steve
Correct, the shoulders are now not rounded and don't have trim. They did use the current colors with rounded, trimed shoulders for at least the pre-season before they switched, but coming across pictures of those isn't easy. sundstrom
i didn't know that they did, but i'll take your word for it.
mddevsfan
I do remember seeing red and black jerseys that weren't the exact same designs as the current jerseys. But I'm not sure where to find a picture. EDIT: Devils Team Photos This is from the team website. None of the jerseys have green in them. All of the 1980's jerseys are red and black with the older style shoulder area. Now I'm all confused... El Diablo
Why do I find it so amusing that Albelin is in that photo? or Weinrich ... those pads on T-bone look gigantic !
sleepy steve
Awesome, thanks, that's it. I didn't even know they took a team photo, i didn't think those uniforms made it past the preseason.
Devils731
That's T-bone? I thought they had Ralph Maccio do a cameo appearance with them.

Devils731
He may have meant different from the old jerseys. The trim in the middle picture is black instead of green. Its a combination of the old and new jersey.

David Puddy
I don't think that's actually black. Look at every photo with the Christmas jerseys and the trim looks like it could be black. http://www.newjerseydevils.com/2005/html/h.../1280/90-91.jpg http://www.newjerseydevils.com/2005/html/h.../1280/89-90.jpg http://www.newjerseydevils.com/2005/html/h.../1280/88-89.jpg http://www.newjerseydevils.com/2005/html/h.../1280/87-88.jpg http://www.newjerseydevils.com/2005/html/h.../1280/86-87.jpg Also, according to sportslogos.net & nhluniforms.com, the green went through the 91-92 season. Not saying that's a definitive source, but those guys are sports logo geeks and they're usually right. I'm 99% sure that if these jerseys existed, they were only a preseason 92-93 thing. sleepy steve
Puddy you're right, i'm pretty certain they only wore them for one pre-season. I also have hockey cards with the whole team in these uniforms but it'd be easier for me to locate the holy grail then dig those cards out of the attic. ice dog
i have a large devils metal trash can from that era right around 90' or so and the green seemed to have been made much darker than the 80's devils uniforms/logos etc. it may be that the devils went to a much darker green that almost looked black before actually going black. Rufener
THE ANSWER: The Devils have only worn TWO "styles" to this day. The original red/white/gree and the curren red/white/black. The RWG jerseys were worn in regular season and playoff play through the 1991-1992 campaign. These jerseys includes both NHL 75th and Devils 10th patches. The Devils continued to wear the RWG style for the 1992-1993 preseason (wearing recycled preseason jerseys from the past few seasons) and then SWITCHED to the current RWB jerseys to start the 1992-1993 regular season. That season they also sported the 100th Cup patch. Confusion about the "black" color is likely do to poor photo quality. Thanks, Ben

Colorado Rockies 1976
Ruf and Ric have it right...I went to a preseason game in 1992 vs. Pittsburgh where they were wearing the Christmas classics (actually, it was the last game they would ever wear them), and they were white, red and green. I remember wondering what the new jerseys were going to look like (I just assumed the Devils were just going to swap out the green for black and keep the trim the same)...although I've come to appreciate the older style jerseys as a great part of the Devils' history, the new trim style was definitely a huge improvemnt over the old. And yeah, for some reason the green doesn't always photograph well. I've seen several e-bay auctions for old-school Devils jerseys where the seller mentions that the trim is actually green and not black as it appears in the photos. sleepy steve
Sorry man. They wore the old style with the new colors, for 1 pre-season.
El Diablo
I do recall them wearing white helmets with the road reds ... ....and then Pepe got a hold of that nonesense and said " No no no no boys.. we are wearing black helmets..." Rufener
Sorry man. They wore the old style with the new colors, for 1 pre-season. Assuming you are referencing this "black" set as being worn in the transition period... I set this up for you: 1990-1991 Season: 1991-1992 Season: 1992-1993 Preseason: (Recycled from 1990-current, LAST OF STYLE) 1992-1993 Regular Season (FIRST OF STYLE): The photos look "black". They are in fact "green". I hope this helps.
