ludvig29
I looked up an interesting item today. The link below is to the Sportsnet.ca page for David Perron, who is the forward that the St.Louis Blues ended up taking with the Devils first round pick in 2007 (the pick the Devils needed to trade away for cap reasons). He looks like a solid player with some good potential - do you think he would have had a place on the Devils this year (or last)? langs15
He is a great player and would be an asset here. He has some nice moves and has great vision and hands.
ludvig29
Didnt we trade that pick to the Sharks for Malakhov>? We traded Malakhov and the pick to the Sharks, then they traded it to St.Louis who picked Perron.
Sharifijanov2099
What does it matter? We had to pay the price for a bad free agent signing, and this was the price. But also, who knows who NJ would have selected had it kept the pick? Just seems like a waste of consideration to say "What if" so and so were a Devil. And if so and so were a Devil, who knows how they'd perform in our system? It's better to deal with known entities instead of in thought exercises like this one. If we're talking young players, let's talk about our own, or about the development of Oduya or Greene, or the failure of a guy like Vrana. Don't really see a discussion about Perron as being all that relevant, not to be a sour-puss or anything.

It's sort of like when people want to take any draft pick that didn't work out in the 3rd round and point to the 2 guys drafted later that became stars as a "failure" by the Devils and things like that. yort44
And if Grandma had b*lls she'd be Grandpa. The what if's are useless, but fun . Here's a better one. What if in 1991 the Leafs didn't trade their first round pick to the Devils for Tom Kurvers and kept it instead? Who'd the Devils take? Scott Niedermeyer. Lateralous
The one that really hurts is that we traded down in the 2006 draft with St. Louis and they took Patrik Berglund in our spot. Hopefully Corrente and Zharkov make us forget about him but as of right now, I would undo that trade in a minute because we would be set at Center for a while if we had both Zajac and Berglund. Jas0nMacIsaac
I don't care about Perron, I would rather Jonathan Blum. This guy is a stud defensmen in the mold of Scott Niedermayer, finally California born athletes want to be hockey players.
