Devils Pride 26
No bonuses??? I thought Kolzig got one this year and Shanny had that clause with the Rags as well. I think its something werid that defeats the purpose of the bonus. Something like the bonus for the cap hit stays on the cap whether or not the numbers were reached. Can anybody confirm/explain this? Devils Pride 26
Nevermind, I found it. I was wrong there are bonuses but it doesn't apply to everyone. PERFORMANCE BONUSESWhat players may earn in performance bonuses? Performance bonuses will only be permissible for the following types of players: (1) players on entry-level contracts; (2) players signing one-year contracts after returning from long-term injuries (players with 400 or more games who spent 100 or more days on injured reserve in the last year of their most recent contract); and senior veteran players who sign a one-year contract after the age of 35. Scott Stevens #4
Excuse me for the obvious, but wasn't our problem (As everyone is quick to reiterate) not being able to weather pressure on our "D"?Yet everyone here seems to be discussing offense? and....Shannny? Can we finally get a solid D that has a somewhat-threatening shot from the point. AKA - Beauch.... Thats our biggest problem yes and needs to be addressed but like somebody elaborated in a post on a thread before im also ready for 3 scoring lines
frozenfire
Realistically, I can see Lou bringing back Zajac, Odyua, and Greene. Gio and Madden may come back, unless they go elsewhere for more money and better opportunity. I can see Madde going back to Michigan and play in Detroit or play for a team like Minnesota, who plays the defensive type of game Madden flourished under when the Devils played it. Gionta I can see either going out west to a team like Anaheim, San Jose, Phoenix, or going to Buffalo. Hell, maybe even the Rangers will throw him a deal like 7 yrs/$50 million As far as additions go, I can see us bringing Petr Sykora back, and Lou signing a dman lke Marc-Andre Bergeron, who has been mentioned here a few times. He's young, big, and puts up good numbers for a dman. Also, look on the team he played on this year. Impressive. Assuming 1 or 2 rookies crack the lineup, it may look something like this next year... Elias-Rolston-Sykora Parise-Zajac-Langenbrunner Halischuk-Zubust-Clarkson Pando-Vrana-Bergfors Bergeron-Martin Odyua-White Salvador-Mottau/Corrente/Greene Cosa pensate? Thinking like this is the reason this team fails every year. People don't really look at what a player is producing. Tell me if Suckora was in this most recent playoffs and hurt like Elias and Langs were: Would he suck it up and play or sit it out? This isn't 2000 anymore. MAB is a powerplay specialist, end of story, ask Anaheim and the ISlanders. He won't be clearing the zone or the crease. Again wasn't that the biggest issue? Or have we forgotten in 24 hours the last minute of both of those fateful games in favor of offensive pipedreams. BTW, along those lines, when does Gaborick get here? It's painfully obvious that this team goes nowhere in the post season until someone fills those BIG shoes left by the #1 D-men who have left this team. pattyelias
Step 1: Trade Pandolfo and Zubrus for Ovechkin and Semin + a 1st rd pickStep 2: Convince Neids to sign with us, 1 year/800k. Tell him to bring his friend Pronger, at no charge. Step 3: Place MArty in a time capsule and bring him back to *true* MB form. Step 4: Trade Rollie for Arnott. Sign Sykora (who was also placed in a capsule). Step 5: Use rookies for the rest. Top 3 lines: Parise-Zajac-Langenbrunner Elias-Arnott-Sykora (A line reunites) Bergfors-Semin-Ovechkin (best 3rd line in hockey!!one1!) Leblond-XXXX-XXXX Neids-Pronger Martin-Oduya White-Motts -Brodeur (actual Brodeur) -Jesus Christ (if he can make the saves in the world, he can make the saves on the ice) Coach: Jacq-Larry Burns'emaire. I really like that trade of Pando and Zubrus for Ovechkin, Semin and a first-rounder. Think Washington will bite? Would the Devils have the cap space? LucifersDog
does zubrus have a no trade clause? What team in the NHL would wants him with those dollars? IMO none. This was a just another terrible contract negotiated by Lou Lams. Edited April 30, 2009 by LucifersDog

Katie
UFA's:Gionta- If he will re-up for 4 for 1 or 2 years or take a little discount for a longer term deal, let him stay. Madden- Thanks for the memories but please leave. Holik- Not gonna say anything bad about the guy but there's really no reason to have him here. Rupp- Should be replaced by a younger player with speed. Shanahan- Re-sign if he wants the same deal or cheaper. Great vet presence and chips in here and then. Oduya- Lock him up!!!! Havelid- Sometimes she wants a house with kids and a dog and he wants an apartment in the city with a view and a bar. Not a good fit. Clemmensen- If he gets a deal over 1.5 mil somewhere let him go. Otherwise I wouldn't mind him playing 25 games per year. Weekes- Capable backup but has injury issues... Keep or let walk depending on Clemmer RFA's: Zajac- Lock him UP!!!! PL3- Min deal maybe to replace Rupper. Greene- Depends... if they can get a viable replacement then sure... I really hope the Devils make a serious run at Cammalleri... It might be expensive but they can get Madden, Holik, and Havlid off the books and maybe afford him.. Parise-Zajac-Langenbrunner Elias-Cammalleri-Gionta That would be great. I agree with you 100% here. I think Greene should go as well, he wasn't really a contributor this season. Really sad. Madden didn't wake the F up til about game 7...No goals in 20-something games? That's just pathetic for him. Holik should have his jersey retired (i'm thinking that's why Lou brought him, Rolston & Shanny back - anyone else think that?) No - Pando can stay - he at least made an effort this year unlike some others (Madden, White, Green, Mottau, Havelid, ....) Neids would NEVER come back unless his whiny little bro followed. Ugh. Marty needs to break all of about 3 records left and then he'll retire. Maybe we'd get Ward with the leftover $ that was Brodeur's salary. Sorry but Arnott isn't coming back to Jerseyland either. Sykora would be just as useless as Holik and Rolston. I do agree with the rookies - although they MUST be rough tough rookies - no pansies please!! Oh and I think Scotty Stevens should be coach. We'd have Stevens, MacLean and Albelin behind the bench - HELLO 1995!!!

Don't forgot that another reason why we didn't win this series was because our PP wasn't all that great (I think something along the lines of 3/30). If we actually did something on that 4 min PP the ending would have perhaps been different. The problem is I don't think we have cap space to go after a true #1 D-men without plugging a couple of prospects into forward slots (Bergfors, Halischuk).
