give me the days of the old CBA - Vancouver makes a formal offer to Niedermayer, Lou makes the case at the arbitration hearing that we want Markus Naslund and Jovo in return........and wins!

haha is that really how it used to work?

I'm confused myself.

Stevens was awarded to the Devils because the package of Joseph and Rod Brind'Amour was deemed insufficient compensation for Brendan Shanahan.

However, Washington was awarded 5 first round draft picks by St. Louis for picking Scott Stevens.

Why was there an arbitration hearing for Shanahan, but 5 first round picks for Stevens?

St. Louis didn't have five first round picks available as compensation for signing Shanahan, since they gave them up when they signed Stevens.

If this arbitration happens (if neids/devs dont sign longterm beforehand), I think

Lou will be more "gentile" in his approach with neids.

 As opposed to more "jewish"?

Sorry . . . I couldn't resist.

btw, all this salary discussion reminds me of the kind of $hit brodeur took from the NHLPA when he signed his last contract. quotes like "this selfish signing is hurting other players that will be compared to him. They will not get what they deserve" weren't uncommon...

all OT, but i just thought of it when I read this and the pronger thread

Isn't this an old article that we discussed already?

If it is, I apologise. I looked around here for a bit and I didn't see anything like this.

Just seemed familiar. Either it fell off the first page or I read it on another site. :noclue:
