I know what you mean. At the start of the year, if you asked me what my worst cup final would be, I would have answered Detroit vs. Pitt rematch. I think this is all my fault. I quit playing pickup hockey 2 years ago and ever since I have been severely punished by the hockey gods. The only way I can see how to fix this is to come out of retirement this fall and play again. I am also planning on attending a camp fire on June 27th, so maybe I should bring PItt, Detroit, Carolina memorabilia to ritualistically burn in the flames...

As I expected, Boston was way overrated, although they could still mount a come back (see Washington VS. NYR in the first round). Carolina, as much as I detest them, has a fast, young, talented team.

I watched the first period of San Jose/Anaheim last night. I must say, Anaheim's defence is absolutely amazing. Just a complete shut down of the skilled SJ forwards when they enter the Ducks zone. I know that Nieds is kind of a traitor here, but he along with Pronger, Whitney and Beauchemin have really been playing well. When I watch the ducks play, and then compare them to our D, I can' t help but be really envious. Too bad guys like Pronger + Nieds are so hard to come by. I really like the Sharks, so I'm sad that they are losing, but you really have to give credit to the ducks for playing such sound defensive hockey. Also, Bobby Ryan is an absolute beast and I would not be sad if Blake never got anywhere near another cup in his lifetime.

I'm watching the Caps/Rangers since no Devils feed for me I must say, Theodore looks like a complete sieve in this game. He really needs to step up or Caps are in trouble.

I have been a big fan of Pando throughout his career, but honestly, the guy is done. He had absolutely no hussle on the PK and this led to the Dman easily getting the puck and setting up the goal. Why can't we just play Zack or someone who can skate out there for the PK? I have no problem with him dressing, but for God's sake Sutter keep him away from the PK!

What I meant is that he will be in his mid-twenties by the time we need another goalie. Lots of goalies start playing in the NHL when they are 19-20, Marc Andre Fleury and Rick Dipietro being recent examples. Didn't even Brodeur start in the league when he was 20 or so?

Can you honestly say that a 22 year old who has been toiling in the minors for years is our future when Brodeur leaves? I assume that Lou can come up with someone better than that.

Totally agreed. I really don't see why Lou would get rid of him at this point. Yes, he may be forced to sit for the rest of the season or be sent back to the minors, but Lou is not concerned with Clem's feelings, he is only going to do what is best for the team. He will surely walk in the off-season since we have Weekes as our backup already. On that note, I really hope that we draft a couple of goalies in the next draft to refill our farm with talent.

Not only that, he was also the Pens coach for a couple of seasons. An obvious lifelong Devils hater. When he was yapping about how NY was outplaying us after the timeout in the second I just wanted to punch him. We had at least 2 decent scoring chances during that time and Rangers had nothing that was close.

I think that one of the biggest reasons that our new players seem to fit better is that Lou is more in tuned with what our team is and needs than just about any GM in the business. I read a long time ago that Lou has this massive board in his office which ranks every player in the league that he updates frequently. I bet if you were to see this board, you would be surprised with how low some players are ranked and how high others are ranked. This is because Lou understands the type of players that win championships vs. the soft, over-hyped players. Having said this, we still have not won anything at this point and there is still plenty of time for us to lose the division. Of course, the cup is all that matters anyway.

Well, I am not afraid to call a spade a spade here, I am going to have to nominate Brian Rolston. He has about 15 points this year for $5 million dollars. Yes, he has a couple of gamewinners for us, but he has for the most part been really disappointing. And how many years does his contract have? Lou made a mistake here, unless he suddenly turns it up down the homestretch.

If Pando keeps sitting in the press box, then that is quite an albatross of a deal we gave him this summer. $2.5 Mill to not play for the next 3 seasons is a huge hit to our cap. I guess that it is good to have him for depth in case we get some injuries, but I wonder if Lou will try to move him. I wonder if Sutter would sub him in for the playoffs for a guy like Rupp since fighting has limited importance in the playoffs. I would prefer we move him and then bring up one of the kids if we get some injuries. Not Brookbank though!

Interesting, so I guess he was gone from Hartford before Shanny went there too, and I don't think that they played together in NYR. They seem to keep following each other.

Quick question: Was Holik obtained from Hartford before or after we got rid of Shanahan the first time? Did these 2 guys ever play on the same team before?
