The injury-plagued Montreal Canadiens actually had a break go their way Thursday, when it was revealed that the New York Rangers will be without star winger Pavel Bure when they face the Habs on Friday night.
According to the New York Times, Bure was told he had strep throat yesterday, and he will miss the Rangers' home opener against the Montreal Canadiens.
Strep throat is very contagious and generally requires up to a week for recovery.
Bure, who scored 12 goals in 12 games with the Rangers last season, also sat out the Rangers' season-opening 4-1 victory at Carolina on Wednesday night.
There could be some help on the way, however, as Ronald Petrovicky joined the Rangers Thursday after clearing up visa problems.
The Rangers claimed the 25-year-old forward from Calgary during the NHL waiver draft last Friday. He won't provide enough offence to make people forget Bure, but he is decent checker who will, at the very least, give the Rangers some depth.
