'7'
our 2009 bullpen is really beginning to look alot like our 2008 bullpen... and the fact we dont have another lefty specialist is hurting us as well..and of course Parnell picked the worst time to go in a slump.. I think Gary jinxed Green when he mentioned the scoreless innings streak...I wish they'd stop doing that. not a hint of offense since the 3rd this is truly a 75 win team with all the injuries. NJDevs4978
It's past the point where I even hope for runs late. At least K-Rod can't blow three saves in a row, right? Of course our baseball iq continues to hover around that of Britney Spears. Between Cora's ill-advised throw and Murphy's idiotic steal attempt this team is annoying even when they try. nmigliore
This isn't a slump, Parnell's WHIP is 1.7 for the season. And yet Jerry lets Stokes rot in the pen time and again without giving him a chance in tight games. his WHIP has always been up, thats true, but there is no way you can say he looks like he did earlier on the year.. his control is way off now and hes hanging pitches over the plate more.. he looked so good in the beginning of the year that i wanted him to pitch the 8th inning over putz... i definitely dont feel that way anymore, so he has gotten worse.. at least his slider still has remained very good. fwiw: april era - 1.74 in 11 games, may era - 2.46 in 14 games, june era - 7.20 era in 8 games .. opposing average went from .293 (april) to .300 (may) to .348 (june).. hes lost effectiveness as the season has progressed. Figures Green'll probably be the one to blow it tonight. After Feliciano and K-Rod have blown the last two, that's the last one left...and having him face these lefties isn't a good recipe. what a great job by Green... have to give huge credits to him and Pedro.. they have been workhorses in that bullpen, every single game they pitch it seems.. but this team needs to find somebody else fast or hope Parnell fixes himself, because Feliciano/Green are going to lose their effectiveness eventually. i wouldn't mind seeing eddie kunz being called up, but hes not a lefty. edit: Wright is having a weird season .. sometimes hes unbeatable at the plate .. sometimes hes an easy strikeouts .. yet he leads the majors in hitting IIRC .. and that run at 2nd base is crucial for the mets.. i dont have much faith in k-rod in the 9th until he proves he has command (which we wont know until the 9th lol). you just never know with him... Rays bringing in a lefty releiver to face Church ... if you are Jerry Manuel do you pinch hit Evans? If so, you have to probably stick Reed in RF and leave Sheffield in LF.... hmm Edited June 20, 2009 by nmigliore

Well yeah the Philly disaster (and it was a disaster, he would have given up three HR's in CBP or any other park) kinda knocked him down a peg and he's really sucked since then. I guess the worm can always turn...Green couldn't get a little leaguer out early in the season and he's been a monster for about the past month. '7'
What is Wright waving at? That ball was closer to the 1st baseman than it was to the catcher. Throw it 15 feet outside and David swings.

Ryan Church, behind in the count 0-2 vs a lefty, takes it up the middle and brings home an important insurance run. Nice job by Church!!! nmigliore
lets all pray K-Rod has good stuff 1 out.. jesus... that was rocket, nice job by church to track it down... if that was evans or sheff out there (assuming they had pinched hit for church and stuck Reed in LF) that would be a leadoff double 2 out... jesus, again lol... castillo with a horrible throw but murphy stuck with it.. 3 out!! METS WIN, PHILLIES LOSE. 2 games back!! ...Now we have our ace and #2 going tomorrow and sunday, lets win at least 1 more. '7'
Citi Field swallows another home run. Just listening to the crack of the bat and watching it on TV, I thought Navarro put it in orbit. I mean that ball was MURDERED. It didn't reach the warning track

He's given up six runs since then including tonight. Oh joy, K-Rod's been fortunate this inning. One shoulda been HR and another AB where Aybar swings at Ball Four and Castillo nearly throws it away. '7'
Frankie still isn't quite right. His pitches are drifting high. nails it down though maybe we have something in Nieve...he'll come down to earth as a starter but perhaps a reliver down the road. Nieve has a nice and live fastball, good curveball, and solid changeup that should at least keep in him in our bullpen when our rotation gets healthy.. whenever Maine gets back, Redding should be pushed to the bullpen.. Mets should DFA Switzer or Takahashi.. once Ollie comes back, we should have a better read on Nieve. nmigliore
i fvcking hate opposing pitchers batting. only the mets make them look like a serious threat... especially AL pitchers.. now we better pray this game gets through the top of the 5th. '7'
Now I don't like Castillo, but we don't need to mock cheer him after every pop fly he catches.
nmigliore
I think that was his first pop fly catch back home at Citi since that game. Offense better get some runs. lol Tim McCarver .... Santos physically looks nothing like LoDuca... this guy truly is an idiot. Edited June 20, 2009 by nmigliore
'7'
What an absolute bomb by Pena. Santana has been good today but also a little bit lucky...a lot of well hit at 'em balls. Not sure if the Mets are capable of scoring more than 1 run today. Shields is pitching great and his pitch count is pretty low for this portion of the game...plus our lineup is pure sh!t. nmigliore
2-1 rays ... longballitis just wont go away from Johan (that was moonshot from Pena, wow) ... considering Wright/Beltran didn't show up today and Shields looks locked in, this game could be over. its only 1 run, nothing a solo homer or big leadoff hit cant fix..... but lets see if this lineup can produce that.. still have plenty of game left. edit: Santana's line so far - 7 IP, 3 hits, 2 ER, 3 BB, 3 K .. tough luck edit, bottom 7th: pitch Wright inside = success for pitcher. nmigliore
yeah its over now... they'll end up calling the game giving the rays the cheap win ahhh major league baseball can be such a joke.
NJDevs4978
Too bad Santana had to give up the HR to Pena in the 7th or the rains didn't come a half hour earlier, otherwise the game could have been suspended at least. Oh well, I'm not sure if we could have gotten a hit off Shields all night anyway. At least win a series tomorrow, god we haven't even done that since playing the lousy Nationals a couple weeks ago. nmigliore
According to WFAN the tarp is off the field... good... hopefully we can rally for a win ... hopefully shields is out. edit: Parnell is in ... nmigliore
Parnell really needs to develop another offspeed pitch... he doesn't have the control to work with just a fastball and slider. top 8th inning:wow a walk and a hit ... Jerry wake the fvck up, Parnell cant pitch at all right now. top 8th inning: again Feliciano saves someone's ass... this isn't good though, him and Sean Green will be out of gas by late July or early August.. good news is Wagner is coming back around then bot 8th inning: why not PH Schneider for Santos vs the RHP? Jerry loves taking out Schneider... but not Santos.. Castillo works the count into his favor and does nothing.. he takes 3-1 too much.... Sheff grounds out.. this lineup is a FAILURE, they have no fight in them at all... they haven't had a hit since Cora's double WAYYYYY back in the 3rd inning.. even last night the lineup wasn't good; they got 1 big hit off Sonnanstine and then went quiet the rest of the game until Church brought home Beltran in the 8th Edited June 20, 2009 by nmigliore
nmigliore
Thats you get for going to Green/Feliciano so much....... thats what you get for having 2 stupid spots in the bullpen taken up by 2 scrubs who never pitch.... when will this organization ever learn?! DUMP TAKAHASHI OR STOKES ALREADY. WOW.. they need another reliever who can pitch a damn inning.. clearly Jerry has no faith in either of those 2 long relievers so you need to dump one of them, they are just a waste of space.. Parnell is just flat out bad right now.. Is Switzer still in our bullpen? Seriously.. I dont even know since our bullpen has basically become a 3 man crew : Green, Pedro, and K-Rod.. call up Eddie Kunz please. thank God i can turn this off now. edit: Kunz's AAA numbers - 2.73 ERA .. 29.2 IP, 22 hits, 22 K/15 BB (yes this is his one weak spot), 2.56 groundout/flyout avg, .202 batting avg against (righties hitting .169 vs Kunz, lefties hitting .250).. hes on the 40-man roster, I dont see why they dont just DFA Takahashi and call up Kunz. edit 2: Wright KILLS lefties.. .500 avg.. thats a 50/50 chance he gets a hit or makes an out. lets see what he can do vs the lefty here. Strikes out... 3 pitches... chasing pitches in the dirt...... lol easy out... why couldnt they have just called this game? this team is trash.. now lets go and blow the series by losing the rubber game.... meanwhile chalk up another great santana start that is wasted..
