I saw this posted on another forum. Did anyone get it?

Just wanted to let everyone know there is a new 160 page full color book called "Ice On Fire" out. It's about the Devils 2003 season. I picked it up at Borders in Watchung on Rt. 22. It's pretty nice and goes for $20. Makes a nice addition to the coffee table.

I didn't see it in the Borders I went to :P I suppose I'll wait till the first.

I'm shocked there is a book already; geez someone must have been confident in our chances  I know the tape/DVD is also gonna be done July 1 but that's different they have all the footage they need either way.

Who wrote it BTW anyone know?

I forget who wrote it, it's sitting in my car. It looks like it was put together quick...mostly pictures.

twisted elegance, the tagline was Ice on Fire on the website if I remember right.

Is it like the one the Stars had in '99 that was actually just a compilation of playoff articles from the Dallas Morning News along with the color photos, on slick paper?

From the way you describe the Dallas one, yes. They have a game of the month. Profiles of players, and then recaps of all the playoff games. There's tons of pics.

Here is the lowdown:

It IS called "Fire on Ice" for $19.95. The subtitle is "The New Jersey Devils' Road to the 2003 Stanley Cup Championship". It's a yearbook type magazine. The cover picture is the guys mobbing Marty at the end of game 7. Sports Publishing LLC published it. The photos and articles are by the AP.

I called the Barnes & Noble in Clifton. They put copies on hold for me. They will hold them for 3 days. If you call, please make sure you say it's for the Devils. There are a few books by the same title, including a Lindros book. I doubt you want to end up with that one.

In the book, each month of the regular season has a player profile & game of the month. They have profiles for Brodeur, Stevens, Daneyko, Pandolfo, Brylin, & Gomez. Then the playoff portion of the book begins.

There are just under 100 pictures including front & back covers. Some of them are spreads. The articles were written by various reporters such as Tom Canavan, Joseph White, Ira Podell, Rob Maaddi, Alan Robinson, John Wawrow, & Mel Reisner.

Wow how do I not have one of those!?! I have just about everything from 99 cup win and all the things they gave the Season ticket holders but I don't have that book. I need to check ebay for that one and the NJ one sounds awesome. I will have to put that on my list of things to get along with the video.

sammyk -

The Stars version wasn't as big - more like 50-75 pages, playoffs only.

goobergirl -

I just got my copy last Fall from Amazon - took 3 months to get it. Try ebay first.

Was there a serious amount of Nieuwy, Brunner and Marsh in there, NJDev?

If there was, I'd prob check that out myself, even though I'm admittedly about as far away from a Stars fan as it's possible to get. I'm guessing it must be pretty good since Jamie had a bang-up playoff and Nieuwy was the Conn Smythe winner.

What's it called?

ESB - when I get home this evening I'll send you more details, but I can't remember the name. The video is "Nothing Else Matters" because that was the playoff theme that year, but this had a different name, and it was just the DMN articles & photos from the playoffs, plus a little extra commentary thrown in. The photos are great. More later.

Thanks for the info -- and I look forward to the rest.

And for AGAIN proving why you're my Lady Byng nominee for not telling me to F off when I prove myself rude to your other team.

As long as I have your ear, what do you (and your fellow Stars-inclined Devils fans think of Nieuwy and Marsh and Jamie declaring this Cup win to be their favorite? I hope it doesn't bother you too much. (Seriously, I do.)

To answer both of you -

it didn't bother me at all. After watching the Devils all year, it just seemed so obvious to me that this was an incredibly together team. Marshall had problems with Hitch, so I'm sure that tempered his Cup win with Dallas a little bit (or at least his memory of it). For Jamie, he was so young when they won in '99 (his 3rd year), and I think you appreciate things more the older you get, plus he had such a great year and felt so *wanted* here. And for Joe, I think it was a small portion of "sweet revenge" of the trade, but hey, like he said, after 17 years he's seen it all and played with a lot of guys, and if he says Stevens is the best leader and Marty the best goaltender - I gotta believe him.
