NJDevs4978
USA Today Man I hope this is true and the Mets bite the bullet and sign him for six-seven years. At least the Mets wouldn't have to give up all their pitching prospects (still keep Pelfrey among others) and all their outfield prospects (still have Martinez)
halfsharkalligatorhalfman
OMG OMG OMG OMG Straight up THEFT. They better sign his ass immediately.
Devils731
If that ends up being deal it's a great deal for the Mets. It has the potential to work out for the Twins as well but barring injury it works out for the Mets for sure, even with the huge contract that will come along with it. halfsharkalligatorhalfman
I guarentee if the Yankees or Red Sox were in the NL there is no way the Twins would have chosen this offer over theirs. These guys are garbage.
Colorado Rockies 1976
As a Met fan it's hard not to be happy about this, although they still have to sign him. That doesn't always happen, but I get the feeling the Mets are going to shell out whatever they have to. Long-term deals for pitching always makes me nervous though...take a look at a lot of the LTD signed by pitchers.

stevestevens
Im excited highly. But as a Met fan, im waiting for an epic decline and for this to go up in smoke. I hope not. Lets get Santana already!
Devils731
I agree with the general point that a big part of the motivation was getting him out of the AL but that's a little strong. Gomez was in the majors about a year and a half before he was supposed to be ready this year and didn't look completely out of place, Mulvey supposedly vaulted to being the top pitching prospect even above Humber and Pelfrey according to some people. Devils Pride 26
The ace that we clearly needed. Keeping our best prospect (martinez) also moves everybody back a spot in the rotation, and gives Pelfrey more time in the minors to find his stuff. Im in shock. DaneykoIsGod
The Twins turned down Melky AND Hughes for this pile of crap offer? Wow. Just wow. Gotta tip my cap to the Mets. Hell of a deal they pulled off here.

LOULAM1
A front four of Santana, Martinez, Maine, Perez looks really good on paper. Maine won't be as good as last year, IMO, but Perez could improve and obviously Santana and Martinez for full/most of a season are big upgrades. NJDevs4978
Met fans don't complain about money as much as they laugh at the Yankees not being able to win World Series (which they think a birthright) in the last several years despite spending over a billion dollars on payroll. Plus the Yankees' payroll does virtually guarantee a playoff appearance year in and year out, if not actual success in short series. Hell we only face the Yankees six times a year, not as if it would ever be a big issue between the two teams anyway. Other than that we do have an edge over other NL teams money-wise (though it isn't as pronounced as the Yankees' edge on most AL teams especially considering Tampon Bay is in the same division with about a $20 million payroll).
