LizDevil30
Hockey is a team sport, shootouts aren't fair. They don't have shootouts in basketball.
HellOnICE
You can't compare basketball I don't think, because of the large and usually non-tie scores. You'd have to look at Soccer, at least I think so.
NJD Jester
The problem with the shootout is that there's no way we'll be able to stop the league from doing it. It's exciting, great for television, and spotlights the league's stars. But, as I said before, it's not hockey, and would be the worst thing Gary Bettman has ever done to this sport. Because they won't do it to decide postseason games. So then why use it at all? <JESTER>
LizDevil30
I think you can in some way, but how about baseball, they'll play a billion extra innings. Why don't they have shootouts? Pitcher faces 5 batters and the team with the most hits wins. Football, kick or pass? You get my point. In any event, when teams start losing games regularly to shootouts and missing the playoffs, you'll see that rule disappear but fast. I'd rather see perhaps one more sudden death ot period played before a tie is decided?
JesterDevil
I don't get it, they want the fans to buy more tickets and have more interest in the sport, yet they don't have a poll of what the fans want to see. NHL.com would be a great place for this.
HellOnICE
As much as shoouts take away the element of the team, It has been proven to amke things more exciting. and that's a positive. Ties suck. There's no way else to do this. you can't play unlimited overtime. You can't.
Risky
I want the shootout for the regular season. You win some, you lose some. I don't think you'll see the standings drastically change with the ties banished. I think the Devils have a huge advantage on the shootout with Marty in net. He knows all his shooters so well that he's going to be hard to beat. Remember, on any breakaway/penalty shot, the advantage goes to the netminder. LizDevil30
Not unlimited ot, I thought maybe just one extra period before you concede a tie.
LizDevil30
Remember, on any breakaway/penalty shot, the advantage goes to the netminder. Double edged sword for the Devils, they have Marty and no shooters. What happens if the shootout ends in a tie.
Rock
[ Double edged sword for the Devils, they have Marty and no shooters. What happens if the shootout ends in a tie. They keep going round by round until there is no tie. So what if they have go through the roster 3 times to do it?
LizDevil30
It really is open season on goalies. NHL wants to restrict their movement, limit the size of their equipment, and now put the win or loss of a game squarely on their shoulders. With Marty's great puck-handling ability, he could always try his hand at being a forward.
Don
More trivia questions!!! Longest shoot-out, most shoot-out shots stopped in a row, most goals in a season in a shoot-out. Anyhow, I'd like to see 4-on-4 OT and then a shoot-out. Mostly because I HATE TIE GAMES. I live in a black and white world. There are winners and there are losers. Two points for a win, zero for a loss. End of story. The crowd should go home happy or sad, not melencholy. You should not need a math degree to read the standings. I love baseball standings. Wins. Loses. Win percentage. Game over.

Just not enough room for comments.
nhDEVILSfan
In the AHL i got to see a penalty shot this year and it was the most exciting part of the game. Everyone was standing and yelling, it was a pretty good move, and it was a goal. The place erupted. I bet if they did this it would make it better. No need for OTL and ties, i have never left a time game happy, always like i was missing somthing.

pattyelias
Puddy..........I hate the idea of a shootout and the 3 point regulation win, but if they are gonna go with a shootout it should be like the current Ot formula with 2 pts for a shoutout winner and 1 for the loser. halfsharkalligatorhalfman
a shootout makes as much sense has having a 3 point competition decide tie basketball games
cyrisjoe
shootsouts will ruin penalty shots, the excitement will go down for them because u will see so many more...and no one should gain points if they dont win, EVER no matter what the situation
