The problem is not the equipment, its player's using the equipment for a purpose other than it was designed for. Anyone who had the misfortune of blocking a slap shot or sliding into the boards knows very well that the plastic inserts are a life saver. Don't punish players by compromising the safety their equipment provides just because a select few use it as a weapon rather than "armor". Punish the offenders with consequences sufficient to deter such actions and you will clean up the game while keeping it safe for others. P.S. people are forgetting that underneath the plastic inserts are elbows and shoulders. Yes...Bones, and sharp at that. Is the plastic insert really the root of all evil, or is it the 220 lb guy swinging his elbow at your head?

I have to give Salvador credit where it's due. He directed Stepan's shot into the post with his skate. That goal could have completely changed the game. I say save of the game goes to Salvador.

Psst! Forwards play defense, too. ;-) As for Lou's comments, I can't say I'm entirely surprised. He probably got those same questions asked a hundred times already. At this point, its an answering machine that you are hearing from. Lol.

The team is performing about where it should, perhaps underachieving a little due to untimely injuries. It's frustrating, but that's they way the cookie crumbles. We have to face the facts, there are pot holes that need to be filled before we can smoothly ride into the playoffs. Personally, and perhaps it's herasy for me to say, but I wouldn't mind they finish out of the playoffs and get a better pick. Will it be disappointing to see them miss out a second year in a row? Yes! Do the devils have a chance in hell (pun intended) of competing with the bostons and vancouvers of the NHL? Definitely Not this year. 2 cents.

I like his style and appreciate his skills despite his lack of "production". I don't think its wise to trade him right now precisely because we won't get good value in return. Isn't the old saying, buy low sell high? All in all, he needs to gain a few pounds before he can compete with the big boys. Defenders play his body, not the puck. We see the results, and usually it is him landing on his head over by the boards somewhere. Defenders would have to start playing the puck more if he weighed closer to 200 lbs. Needless to say, this would be very difficult to do given his speed, stick work and evasive puck control. Right now he is at 175 according to the devils web site (which I think is with all his equipment and skates on), so he has some way to go. I don't think its out of the realm of possibility, he is 5"10 after all (hopefully not with his skates on).

Good news, gentleman! I checked outside and the sky isn't falling.

Mark it down as a loss, but I feel the devils held their own. Definitely a drastic improvement over the last meeting. On to the next!
