I kind of agree - if only from the perspective of let's face it this 4-on-4 OT is not going away any time soon. Frankly it's unfair that some games have three points awarded and some two. Then again, tie games would still have only two awarded, but that's still far better than having chintsy OT decisions get three and regulation wins get two.
I'm kind of a purist so I'd rather do away with this nonsense altogether and go back to the straight 2-1-0 point system, but I'm also a realist - they're trying to appeal to the casual fan and make the end of games more exciting and this quasi-pond hockey overtime does that. So if it's going to be around, might as well make it more fair at least. Even if it'll screw up all the points records.
But heck, soccer did the same thing a while back - turning wins from two points to three and from what limited knowledge of the game I have, nobody batted an eye there. Probably red or moustic would know better than I, they're maybe the biggest soccer fans here.
