NewarkDevil5
Someone on HF mentioned at one point that Khudobin is a UFA this offseason. I could easily see Hedberg retiring after the season he's had. Yes Khudobin just gave up 4 goals to us but in reality I don't think any of them were bad goals. He's got good stats overall and I like his style of play. I think he'd be a good option to backup Marty and maybe eventually platoon. Devilsfan118
He's 26 years old, so it's not like he's super young and has tons of room to develop..but at this rate I'd take any fresh face over the two old men tandem we currently have. DevilNurn
We need SOMEONE young next year, doesn't matter who.
NewarkDevil5
Well the way I figure either Marty has another regular and playoff season in him or he doesn't. If he does, then Khudobin can play as a backup for the whole season. If it's clear he doesn't then they platoon them. If Khudobin does well he could be the future. Muevelos
Hedberg said he feels good I doubt he "retires " in all actuality

Khudobin was kind of lost in the Minnesota system for years behind Backstrom and Harding, but he was always good when he got in, even before this year. NewarkDevil5
He can say he feels good all he wants but I don't think in an 82 game season with even more age and wear on Marty that we want to wind up with him playing the backup role. Maybe it doesn't have to be Khudobin but we're going to have to find someone to take on that role who can potentially last beyond next year. Muevelos
I totally agree. We need a young dude behind marty. Behind the best teacher to. But hedberg retire I doubt unless lou buys him out
NewarkDevil5
If Lou asked Moose to bow out gracefully after this year I think he'd do it. Johan has always first and foremost been a team player.
Muevelos
But would lou do that is the question.. Edited April 11, 2013 by CarterforPresident
NJDevs4978
Yeah I'm not convinced Lou's buying out Moose. Especially after he took our multi-year offer over other multi-year offers to relocate his family. Besides, I can't believe they'd buy him out when they wouldn't even sit him one game. NewarkDevil5
My question is do you think Moose has any legitimate offers if he were UFA this offseason. I think at this point his career is pretty well over. The extra year he might be willing to forgo if Lou offered him a job as a scout or something of that variety. '7'
Not sure he is the answer, but his quickness and athleticism are impressive. Still i'd be concerned about his size and vulnerability up high. He's only 5'
Muevelos
Lou will let him play his final year out with dignity. But. If that's the case, unless lou after trades for a young developed goalie lou kinda would have to resign Marty for another year to back up our kid to help develop and train them. That's what I seem most apt honestly.
Onddeck
I don't see it. I feel like when I see our future starting goalie, ill know it. I just don't get that feeling with this guy. I know we need SOMEONE new but look around Lou
Zubie#8
I think he is more of a product of a good team right now.
NewarkDevil5
I would be inclined to agree about the product of good team thing if he didn't have such consistently good numbers at every level he's played at.

I just do not like small goalies lol.
NewarkDevil5
I know I'm old fashioned, but I just don't think a 5'11" goalie is small. I guess guys like Terreri, Irbe, Hasek, and Sauve are a thing of the past, but he's taller than any of them.
PacificDevil
Prob. Devils are going to give a shot to Kinkaid to backup Marty next season, depending on how he does they will or will not try to get someone in the summer 2014
Muevelos
Next season? Lou wont move hedberg he'll let him play his final year out most apt. That would be after that season which require resign marty to a one year deal to be with kinkaid or to trade for a already starter ready goalie. Those are the two and seems the first one is most probable given Lou
PacificDevil
For some reason I suspect Moose will retire after this season
NewarkDevil5
If you're right Carter, then we'll waste another season with no progress.
Muevelos
Yeah that came to me to. It's not what we rather but I feel Lou will do that.
NewarkDevil5
If Hedberg retires I think they go with Kinkaid at backup next year I'd love for Kinkaid to be ready to assume that level of responsibility, but at this point he has yet to play a single complete NHL game and his AHL stats aren't exactly lights out either. Khudobin has had a .920+ save percentage at almost every single level he's played at. Granted he's played the most games at the NHL level in his career this year and that's only been 11, but his save percentage is still a .924 which is pretty decent considering that he's played as many games as most backups used to play behind Marty in a full regular season let alone a shortened one. Every time Khudobin's had NHL time he's done well. Once again, not the largest sample size, but still the fact is that he's shown himself repeatedly capable of playing at this level.
