US wants to paint the world white to save energy

Making roads and roofs a paler colour could have the equivalent effect of taking every car in the world off the road for 11 years, Chu said.

It was a geo-engineering scheme that was "completely benign" and would keep buildings cooler and reduce energy use from air conditioning, as well as reflecting sunlight back away from the Earth.

I think it's a pretty neat idea, Idk how I feel about white roofs everywhere but if the projections were accurate the lighter shaded roads is a pretty cool concept, very outside the box thinking.

I wonder how the white roads would do in northern areas with ice and snow.

Some people with flat top roofs already use products like snow roof but

with regular shingles you may have to apply an adhesive to keep the tabs down.

White roads would be interesting. I do remember seeing red roads in PA.

Thats all that red shale in the area

New York has a whole bunch of green roofs coming along. Planting grass, plants on the roof has the same air conditioning effect plus the added bonus of good looks and oxygen generation.

I've seen these. It's an excellent idea that really cuts down on the energy used and keeps the roofs cooler.

Some buildings, at least the new ones, are doing this from what I heard.

How does one mow their roof?

They attach a mower to the boom of a concrete pumper.
