Stamkos, Giroux may be on the block...  would be looking to diversify to 2-3 decent players (upgrades to my current roster) back obvious.

I would love stamkos, but I'm guessing i will not be willing to part with everything you would want.

I like the keeper aspect.  Would it be the same as our Fantasy Football league in terms of draft position with keepers?

I'd like to suggest a diffeerent keeper idea:

no keepers taken in rounds 1 -3, protects the top of the draft, and you lose a pick 2rounds higher than your keeper...

thoughts?

That is the problem with a keeper system, it lessens the incentive for winning the draft pick choice if you're only starting in the fourth round.

I don't really know what can work and what can't in a live draft in Yahoo with having some preset picks. I could experiment and try to find out.

Maybe we just make the rule no keepers from 1st 3 rounds, and then shorten the draft by however many keepers we vote on?

That was more my thought...   and I think it should be rely on end of year rankings (ie no forward inside the top 60, 75, 100, etc by Yahoo ranking) and not pre-draft (ie this handles Tarasenko cases, etc) and would keep the first few rounds very competitive and maintain that advantage for winning, etc.

So yea, I think this is where having continuation to the following season helps out...    I've conceded I have no chance to win (obviously); or even a top 5 now.   I obviously monitor my team because I like being competitive; but at the trading deadline; I'd be a seller if it had some benefit to me... but right now I just feel like I'd be throwing my support to another team with no expected benefit (if anything detriment to me).

Part of this is my trading strategy has always been to consolidate players not diversify; but the other part is me not being down here in the doldrums of fantasy hockey obscurity to really think about how to make it better.

I'd love to send Spezza, Grioux or Spezza out for a promising young player who should be more valuable next year as a keeper, or swap picks, etc.    Sure it gives a boost to that team this year, but it detracts from them next year.

I'm still mulling offers for Stamkos and Giroux; but just thought I'd explain my inaction on actually doing it.

Does Fantasy Hockey support trading picks?  I assume so since it does in football:  https://help.yahoo.com/kb/fantasy-football/enable-draft-pick-trading-sln6461.html

  • Draft picks can be traded for either players, other draft picks, or both.
  • Please check with your commissioner to find out which rounds have been designated as off-limits for trading to accommodate keeper placement.
  • In order to trade for draft picks, an equal number of draft picks must be traded away.
    • Example: You want to trade your 2nd- and 3rd-round picks to get another team's 1st-round pick. The other team must include another draft pick (e.g. a 10th-round pick) in order for the system to accept the trade.

I guess we'll have a keeper in some form starting next year since most seem to want it, maybe keep three players drafted after the first five rounds/picked up in FA with no valuation (ie just putting them as your final three round picks and going from rounds 1-20 in the draft)? It would help shorten the live draft a little too.

With the option to either keep them in perpetuity (more than one season) or replace a keeper with someone you draft the season after in rounds 6-20. It also protects the integrity of the top of the draft and nobody can keep Stamkos or Crosby based on a random draft spot. But you can keep a dark horse/younger stud you find in a later round indefinitely.

That Id have to look up but doing it in a live draft (hockey) is probably different from the offline football draft. But I'd be open to that too.

Yeah, there is an option to allow draft pick trades here.  I could do it 'now' if I wanted lol...but I don't know how that would dovetail with keepers, maybe you could just reserve rounds for keepers like in ESPN so those picks aren't available for trade.

I'm all for this, but also like the football rule where we have new keepers every year, but I'd be ok w/ perpetuity as well...

If we are doing the last three, etc picks for keepers; I think it's on you to not trade those picks or risk giving up a higher round pick for keepers (you're three, etc lowest draft picks are used for keeper slots).

Keepers based off of last years draft may mess with the front of the draft more and I'd hope to keep the draft exciting up front like you said.   Perhaps excluding the top ~100 at the end of season, or preseason Yahoo rankings (injured stars who dropped in ranking because of a lack of stats this year)  on a drop date...   This way you're keeping the role players you like for your team and not able to stash blossoming stars like Tarasenko,  Forsberg, Tyler Johnson, etc.    Players who will clearly be drafted much higher next season.

I'm not opposed to opening up draft picks now... but I'm not clamoring for it either.     It's clearly in my self-interest to support it this year; if I'm defending the #1 spot; I'm clearly opposed to it... ha

I don't want to base anything on Yahoo's dopey preseason player ranks and their current player ranks are a bit influenced by PIM's which aren't a part of this league.

I'm with Has, IMHO the whole point of keepers is finding someone in the 7th-10th rd that ends up being a 3rd round quaklity or better, and getting to keep him, if you find a diamond in the rough that ends up being of 1st round quality you should get to keep that player, it certainly will not mess up the 1st few rounds w/ the exception of 4 or 5 players each year...
