thefiestygoat
Anything new on Matteau, Boucher and Pietila?? The evaluation camp ended but it sounds like Matteau and Pietila made decent impressions. Hopefully all 3 start off the year strong and get invited back for the pre-WJC camp. Here is what Chris Peters at The United States of Hockey had to say about the Devils prospects: THE WAY-TOO-SOON PROJECTED ROSTER (THAT IS SURE TO BE WRONG)Gaudreau – Galchenyuk – Miller Lucia – Kuraly – Noesen Kerdiles – Trocheck – Biggs Pietila – Fogarty – Hartman Matteau On the bubble: Bardreau, Boyd 13th Forward — This is the position you have the most freedom with if you’re Team USA. You can find out where you’re deficient in your top four line and see if there’s a guy you can get that won’t play as much, but gives you that added versatility. Sometimes this goes to a guy with that extra bit of toughness the team lacks. Sometimes it’s to a power-play or PK specialist. It really can go any way they want. I put Stefan Matteau in there because I think he did enough in camp to show he belongs on the team, but maybe not enough to earn a regular role. Blake Pietila — It would be unfair to point out all of the guys who put up a bunch of points in camp and not talk about the much needed defensive play. As far as forwards go, I thought Pietila was a standout in the defensive department. The Junior team probably needs a guy like him in Ufa. He has enough speed to match up with top offensive units, and the grit to make life tough on them. He’s a pretty strong individual and relentless in puck pursuit. Kind of makes sense why the Devils drafted him then. Reid Boucher could be in the mix at that position despite a bit of a lackluster camp. His natural goal-scoring ability wasn’t really showcased in Lake Placid, but he has a track record of coming up huge in big games. He should remain in the mix for a spot. Not much was known or expected from Pietila as a 5th round pick in 2011 but after a very solid freshman season at Michigan Tech: 39 GP 10-14-24 -3 46 PIM (t-4th on team in pts) and reading about Peters and others praising his defensive and skating abilities, it looks like he has a real shot to be a pro player down the road. thefiestygoat
News: Hearing that Devils 2nd round pick Damon Severson will be signed by New Jersey either today or in the very near future — RJ Broadhead (@SNRJBroadhead) September 5, 2012 Hearing that Devils 2nd round pick Damon Severson will be signed by New Jersey either today or in the very near future Sorry for the lack of game by game updates but for the preseason action its easier for me to just lump multiple games together. I will do daily updates when the regular season starts. This calendar isn't complete (missing Minnesota and needs some editing) but it is the Devils prospect calendar for this upcoming season. I suggest reading it in the "Month" view. I also plan on uploading a spreadsheet to google that I will update daily with all of the stats. Here are the preseason stats that I could find: QMJHL Blainville-Boisbriand: Stefan Matteau LW: 3 GP 0-3-3 E 11 PIM OHL Sarnia: Reid Boucher LW: 2 GP 4-1-5 WHL Swift Current: Graham Black C: 1 GP 0-0-0 -2 0 PIM Kelowna: Damon Severson D: 1 GP 0-0-0 E 2 PIM

thefiestygoat
Devils Prospects Note: It appears that Artur Gavrus won't be returning for a second season in the OHL with Owen Sound but instead return to Belarus to play for Neman Grodno. He originally played for their second tier team before his rookie season last year in the OHL. He did suffer 2 concussions last season so perhaps he wants to get back to a more comfortable style of play in Europe. Hockey Prospectus released their Top 100 Prospect list here. Jon Merrill was the only Devil to make the list at 37. He was the 13th ranked defenseman on the list. Eric Gelinas recieved a mention as just missing out on the list. Hockey Prospectus should have the the Devils Top 10 prospect list out any day now. Here you can see their organization rankings where the Devils rank 27th. Triumph
How low a league is the BCHL? It's the league below major junior. Travis Zajac played there and crushed it with 187 points in 132 games. It's a high offense league, Kerfoot had 69 points in 52 games last season. Thanks for the update fiesty, was checking out some of the scores last night, wondered why Thomson didn't play. FYI, Scarlett tweeted later that he is 'fine' and there's nothing major wrong. Or do guys in the BCHL generally use that as a springboard towards the Dub or NCAA (ie Zajac)

Triumph
He is a bust, didn't you hear? 3 points in 5 preseason games proves this. Sadly, 4 points in 2 games isn't far off from what he should be doing there. I'd want him to be a 1.2-1.5 PPG player, assuming his team is of average strength.
