    What If?

Yep, it'll be interesting to see how the Rangers handle adversity.

    Speed

I agree, GetReal, the passes weren't that crisp last night, but the Devils have some talent. As for Elias' linemates, Joe Nieuwendyk is a good offensive player, but I don't think Langenbrunner belongs with those two. He's a plumber. I'd like to see Gionta there. I am confident that Gionta will be an above average offensive player in this league. He's got ability and desire, he's gonna be successful.

    What If?

We shall see about the Rangers. You'd have to be blind not to be a LITTLE bit skeptical. But it's not impossible that they could be really good. If Carolina could play for the Cup, anything's possible.
  4. The combination of the new rules, plus the kind of players the Devils have, will result in some more shots on Brodeur this year. It's too early to tell, but I think the days where the Devils give up 18 or 19 shots will be few and far between. We'll see.

    Observations

I don't think Gomez was invisible at all! He set up linemates and open defensemen a few times during the game, but he didn't have any points to show for it. Friesen had chances but didn't finish, same with Elias. Gotta finish. Hope the Devs can do so. The Devils took out a pretty good team on the road. Very nice. One more thing.....I'd like to see Gionta playing with Nieuwendyk and Elias, and Langenbrunner with Madden. But that's nitpicking at this point.

    Holik Quote

Nine-for-nine on penalty kills. Guess Holik's sleeping well tonight, right Redrum?

    Bobby Holik

Unibrow has a great point. As long as the Rangers are winning regularly and Holik is doing what he always does, the fans will be happy. Point, Rangers fans don't expect to win, they just want entertainment? What planet did you fly in from. LOL!
  8. One thing I agree with, The offense is a huge question mark. Gomez and Friesen NEED to be a good tandem. We are counting on them. About the players shutting out Burns, Lamoriello wearing too many hats, it's a load of crap. We all know there's a contentious relationship between (N)Єverson and the Devils. The NY Post should do something about it.
  9. Anyone who thought the Canes took the night off didn't watch that game closely. Their power play stunk and they couldn't finish chances, but they weren't sleepwalking out there. The Rangers outplayed 'em. But like someone said, it's only 1 in 82. We've got a long season ahead. I'm gonna enjoy it. How about a shutout to start off the year, Marty?
  10. That was a good story. I never would have guessed Andreychuk is a complainer. Fleury's gotta be high on the list, along with the other "village idiots" on Toronto. God bless him because he's a longtime Devil, but I think Ken Daneyko is our biggest whiner. Gomez ain't too far behind, he's usually got something to say when he gets whistled.
  11. I know. It's a shame, because the Devils have a rich history, even though they've only been around 20 years. I'd like to see that history celebrated on a Saturday night, before a regular-season game at CAA, not out in West Orange or wherever they hold the Alumni game. Geez, we're owned by the Yankees, can't we rip a page out of their book?
  12. The mainstream teams get picked because those are the teams that always make it. Who was the last team to represent the West that wasn't Colorado, Dallas or Detroit? Vancouver in 1994 I guess. KingDevil, I don't think it's a "pipedream" for the Kings to be champions because they're well-coached and have some excellent top-line players. Potvin is streaky, but he's played well the last couple years. A midseason move to get one or two good forwards would help. But other than that, I don't see why they can't be really good.
  13. Sundstrom, I'm talking about a big event at CAA before a game.....having Emrick emcee it and having the Devils PROMOTE it.

    Espn Predicts

Yeah, KingDevil, I can see why you'd say that!!!! LMAO!

    Old-timers Day

We could really have a bang-up event after Stevens, Daneyko, C Lemieux and McKay hang 'em up, but I think there's enough players now to make it a cool day for the fans. Get some original Devils, some guys from 1988 and, of course, 1995. It's so unDevil-like to do something like this, but I'd REALLY like to see it. Any thoughts?
  16. Man, do I ever agree with this post. Amen, Pepperkorn!

    Espn Predicts

If Martin Brodeur wins the Vezina, we will have had a GREAT regular season. Maybe that's stating the obvious, but nevertheless........

    Espn Predicts

I'm with Clement. I'm picking Philly for the finals. But I think you could pick one of 10 teams from the East and not be considered an idiot. Canes, Caps, Senators, Rangers, Islanders, Devils, Flyers, Leafs, Canadiens, Bruins.....I wouldn't be surprised if any of those teams made it. Atlanta, yeah, I'd be surprised if that happened. LMAO!
  19. Theo Fleury turned that Ranger locker room upside down with his troubles off the ice and his antics on the ice. The Devils would NOT have been immune to that just because they are the Devils. The Blackhawks made a big mistake. I realize that Theo got suspended without pay, but what happens when the docs clear Fleury to play? They can't just get rid of him, Fleury has a 2-year contract. What will they do, tell Bob Probert to hold his hand and keep him out of trouble? It's utterly pathetic. Hockey's Darryl Strawberry.
  20. When baby's first words are "Let's Go Rangers," you'll know what to blame it on, Pepperkorn! Hope everything is going well.
  21. OK. Let's assume Hatcher could help the Devils next year. What's he worth? Honestly, I don't think he's worth more than a $2 million salary for no more than 3 years.
  22. I wonder if Ferraro forgot that Messier is still playing. I wouldn't blame him if he did. LMAO!
  23. Berglund just needs to keep a good attitude and play well in Albany. He'll be back. I think we all liked what we saw in the games he played last year.

    Grier A Cap

Come on, Sarge, you know what I mean. Carpenter scored 50 goals a gazillion years before he was a Devil. I'm talking about Carpenter as a Devil.
  25. Jerrydevil

    Grier A Cap

MadDogg, you're right. The Devils were most successful when they let Holik play his game. Agitate. Hit. Check. Chip in some goals. And since we had two centers piling up points in Gomez and Arnott, I can see why people would call Holik a "third line player." But he's not your run-of-the-mill checking-line center. That doesn't do justice. I get the feeling that some people equate Holik with Bobby Carpenter. Tell me if I'm wrong.
