Risky
Merged thread. Should say: I am watching the game (Cablevision IO) but don't have Center Ice. Don't know why, but it's on channel 720. 1-1 Nieuwendyk / Alfredsson (Marchment scored the goal though, ) Edited April 8, 2004 by Risky
Weekes Head
Nieuwendyk got a quick first period goal for the Leafs, they're already up 1-0 in the first. Wonder how Lalime looks otherwise...
Weekes Head
Ehh, 1-1 now, Smolinski got a goal just a couple minutes after Nieu's.

Don
*YAY* I'm more hoping for the Sens in this series because of my dislike of the Leafs and their fans than any affinity I have for the Ottawa team.

Nieuwy25
Well, I'm glad someone's happy. I was happy for Nieuwy's goal and through the 1st, but then the Leafs got undisciplined and Ottawa made them pay. Belfour made a really bad decision on that 2nd Hossa goal. Oh well, just like all the other playoff games so far.
CRASHER
hey that was the first playoff game I've enjoyed so far
Derek21
I saw most of this game and Ottawa played very well. They just irritated the hell out of the Leafs all game goading them into bad penalties. That's the game in a nutshell. Toronto didn't stay out of the box and paid dearly for it. And the Leafs never established themselves because of it at even strength. Once Ottawa got the lead, I never got the feeling Toronto would comeback and tie it. Ottawa just used their speed to play puck possession. When they do that, they're very difficult to beat. I didn't like that one hooking call on Renberg. He hardly touched him and they called it. Very ticky tac call. That being said, McCabe took a dumb slashing penalty and that was a legit call. Now, that's their top overall defenseman and they could have used him out there on the PK and he loses his head and costs his team the game. I also agreed with Cherry about Leetch on a 3-on-5. You have a "defensive specialist" like Marchment for that and Quinn didn't use him. Not that the goal was Brian's fault. It was a perfect one-timer by Redden. But in that situation, isn't that what Marchment's there for? Also, poor game for Johansson. He didn't take Hossa on the winner on either the shot nor rebound. And he made a poor choice to shoot when Varada was right in his face and blocked it leading to Hossa's beautiful goal. Leafs really need the next one. Sundin failed to show up. Jimmy Leeds
I hate both these teams, especially Toronto now that Leetch is there and all the pathetic Rag$ fans have to grab onto something. At least Ottawa has tailored theselves after the Devs, so I respect them a tad.
Derek21
So, you're labeling me as pathetic for rooting for Toronto? Labeling an entire fanbase. Is Nieuwy pathetic because she likes the Leafs too and roots for the Devils? How about all our Stars fans? It just never ends.
Nieuwy25
It's okay, Derek. Some people really don't understand being loyal to a player wherever he goes.
CRASHER
but it also goes the other way... some people don't also understand when people are loyal to the team first... I had THAT fight since last September.. it's a viscious cycle and when you add in playoff intensity it just triples things.... lord knows I had ENOUGH Joe Nieuwendyk fights last year
Derek21
It's okay, Derek. Some people really don't understand being loyal to a player wherever he goes. Thanks Nieuwy. Maybe if he lost a Brodeur or Niedermayer to a trade, he'd understand. When one of your favorite players gets pawned off, it hurts. So, I will pull for the Leafs this year. That said, they better get the second game.

redruM
only saw parts of that game, but its going to be a great series, like i said Ott has too much talent and too much speed....

Jimmy Leeds
It was not directed at Derek because I never saw him post that. When I listen to the FAN and they are ALL rooting for Toronto because of Leetch it cracks me up. I take it back then. They need something to keep their interest. As far as Jasonmacisaac.......where do you get that I got to other boards and attck their fans? Never happened.
