The broadcasters said it probably threw him off cause he was expecting a better shot. They also speculated that if he stopped it, it might have been a penalty shot anyway. Sounds similar to the Shirokov play in the opener. Oh well. Just wasn't meant to be.

Congrats to the Czechs.

As a former employee of your company, I realize hockey might not be as popular as other types of programming you air. I worked for Remote Productions as an NHL researcher. I know it's hard to attract fans to this sport. But if you're not airing anything substantial at 8 PM tonight on ESPN2, I'd really appreciate it if you reconsidered showing tonight's gold medal WJC game between Russia and Canada.

I know you had planned to air the final if Team USA had made it. But how much of an audience were you going to lose if they didn't make it anyway? Hockey is not very popular in the states. But with the labor impasse and it not looking promising as far as the NHL goes, many diehards would be grateful if you showed the gold medal game regardless if Team USA made it. There are some good storylines. You have Sidney Crosby, the most hyped prospect since Eric Lindros going up against the top two Russian draft picks in the 2004 draft, Alexander Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin. That right there is a great reason to showcase the game.

Most fans have to be honest. The chances of there being hockey are slim due to the excessive greed between both sides. This could be the last hockey game we get to see before you air the Frozen Four.

Also, I'd like to add that what you did airing the USA games was a great thing for North America. It was very appreciated. If you want to give the game exposure, the only way to increase your audience is to do what you did in airing those games. I know how much hard work goes into these games. From that standpoint, I can appreciate what goes into the on-air production.

I hope you air tonight's game. If you choose to, you'll win a lot of fans.

Thank you for your time. Hope to see the game tonight.

Derek

Interesting. If enough hockey fans signed up, do you think they'd listen?

I was expecting to see the finals of the World Junior Hockey Championships on ESPN2 tonight. I know ESPN planned to air this game had the US team made it into the finals, but because they didn't you won't be broadcasting it.

First of all let me thank you for showing this hockey-starved fan some great hockey over the past 2 weeks. I got a chance to see some very good American talent. As much as I would've loved to see Team USA play in the finals, unfortunately, they didn't make it that far. But I am a fan of the sport and would've enjoyed to watch the final on ESPN2.

I am sorry to hear you won't be airing the gold medal game, which will be featuring two of the best young teams. Not only does this match-up feature Team Russia's Alexander Ovechkin and Evgeni Malkin, the guys who were drafted 1st and 2nd overall in the 2004 NHL draft, but an exciting player named Sidney Crosby from Team Canada. The hype surrounding Crosby is huge as he is projected to eclipse the mark left by NHL great, Wayne Gretzky.

When LeBron James was about to be drafted, ESPN showed his high school games and aired several special features on him. I realize hockey is not as popular in our country as baseball or basketball or football. We do have fans, though, die hards, and I can guarantee you each one of us who was going to tune in to see Team USA play in the finals had they made it would've tuned in to see tonight's finals even though it doesn't feature Team USA.

I'm quite disheartened by this schedule change up. This is the last hockey game us hockey fans had a chance to watch before you showcase the frozen four.

Thanks again for airing the previous games, and I hope you'll continue to show us some good hockey games in the future.

Sincerely,

Swar, NYC.

Sent to the feedback forum here. Got the same response as Derek.
