2015 Stanley Cup Playoffs thread

Was literally thinking the exact same thing.

Also the outrage over the hit on Boyle is 50-50 at best

its 100-0 in the context of the game. Similar hits occurred on both sides several times throughout the game and were let go, just cuz one happens in the final 5 seconds and a goal was scored doesn't mean the game should be officiated any differently.

That's what i meant by 50-50, guess I shoulda said "at worst"

The name 'Jussi Jokinen' still makes me twitch...

Not to mention Eric Staal in Game 2 2006, although that only got the game to OT.

It's doubly funny that Ward scored that goal since he arguably cost the Caps the 2012 series against the Rangers in Game 5.

Only thing is they didn't leave.  Cally was traded.  Boyle and Stralman by all accounts wanted to come back, would take less money to stay, and Sather didn't want them.  He made a mistake with Stralman, not so much on Boyle.  If Dan Boyle had signed elsewhere, they probably re-sign Stralman.

Think they could've used Stralsy in that last minute over Boyle? Geez. That was brutal. No excuses.

They got what they deserved. The Caps played a tough game. They closed the gaps and made it hard on the Rangers who didn't show any urgency until the third. Then they decide to finally get in front of Holtby and get a dirty goal. The 3rd line was the best line. So, it was fitting that they got it. Too many no shows from their best players. Ovechkin was great. Not going to comment on the Backstrom hit. It shouldn't have happened. Boyle shouldn't have been out there. I put up a recap and review on the blog for anyone interested.

Rick Nash has 6 goals in 47 career playoff games.

Milbury: "Marshmallow soft."

If the shoe fits. Nash hasn't been the same since that injury in late February. Prior, he was going to the dirty areas to score. Now, he's mostly back to being on the perimeter. His two-way game is still there. But unless he changes his game, it doesn't bode well.

Devils should build a team like the Ducks and have a strategy of play like the Ducks.

lol sure that's be nice but this is a bit fair weather- the ducks haven't made it past the 2nd round in 7 years. The devils have. Just saying.

While correct, all this post is doing is opening it up for another Lou bitchfest from the usual suspects. So let's try and keep it moving, eh?

Oh man, the Capitals are playing the mindgames-game HARD this series already, this is going to be entertaining:

1) In the postgame press conference, Barry Trotz compared Ovechkin to Mark Messier. Rangers Twitter pretty much had the Chernobyl-like meltdown that you'd expect, maybe worse.

2) Brooks Orpik today said he's less nervous walking around New York City in his Capitals gear than he was on Long Island. Once again, the fans reacting as you'd expect.

3) Barry Trotz today again upheld Backstrom's hit as a clean one, adding that the fans there near the corner boards didn't even flinch when the hit happened, so it was obviously not that egregious.

Capitals need to win this series. This series means as much to that fanbase and organization as the entirety of our 2012 run. So many monkeys they need to get off their backs. Can they do it?

@TGfireandice: Trotz said Backstrom hit on Boyle "really was nothing. It was the right call."

@TGfireandice: Trotz noted how the fans in the corner didn't even react to the Backstrom hit when it first happened. "They didn't flinch."

Would you be kind enough to post these reactions? I'm sure the board would enjoy the reading material. [emoji38][emoji1] Edited by MadDog2020

I couldn't help myself but just had to reply to some people (who replied a certain way) that this is what Rangers fans sound like when bringing up Lundqvist and Brodeur in the same sentence.

The best part was that Ovechkin was asked what he thought about Trotz's comparison of him to Messier, he goes, "No, I'm Russian, not Canadian"  :giggle:  :giggle:

They better win Game 2, because that's a lot of smack talk, by Rangerstown's low standards.

Hello the Devils have missed the playoffs 4 out of 5 years! They haven't made the playoffs in 4 of 5 years, I have said it again. Which would you like the Ducks not making it past the second round or the Devils not being in the playoffs?  The Ducks are a better team than the Devils. The Devils strategy of dump and chase just doesn't work when  we are the oldest team in the league with $hit players like Zubrus, Ruutu, Ryder, Havlet and many more. Defense first has failed for the Devils.  It hasn't worked in the past 4 out of 5 years. The Duck pass out of the D zone and move the puck forward through the center ice and then start shooting for a goal and they continue this for 60 minutes as demonstrated last night, take no prisoner and kill the children...  We will wot win with today's strategy of Lou, he  is 10 years ago and  it doesn't work today..
