We sh@t the bed for 3 games. Fine. The Devils start slowly a lot, this is far from a catastrophe. Marty looked decent against the Pens. The first goal was off a terrible turnover by Kovie, the second was an own goal off Tallinder (who looks terrible). Kovy's tantalizing. He struggled early, but he was a stud in the 3rd period, even if he didn't bury one. He looked more comfortable with Elias and Arnott than with Zach, which actually makes sense, because he's similar to Patrick Kane in a lot of ways, and Zach and Kane didn't click on team USA either. Langs was defensively responsible, though he's struggling to gel on offense. That should come though. Anyone who didn't expect growing pains with rookie blueliners is crazy, but Tao and Urbom each had some good moments to go with the bad. They'll get better, especially Urbom. The d needs work, but Volchenkov should help when he gets back. Give him time to gel with the right partner, and they'll be that much better. The big problem is the cap, which needs to get fixed somehow. If Winky's on LTIR, Lou just got some time to fix things. When he does, we'll throw out a full roster.

It's as if Lou had our players injured to help him figure out the cap issues

Elias should of never been removed as Captain in the first place and to say he sulked under the burden. He never seemed like he was moping around to me. As for Parise, Brodeur has said he is the bridge to the next generation of Devils players. If that isn't an endorsement what is?

1.) "As Tri said" Well before you take the word of someone as gospel look at the Avs roster they definitely need forward help and are allegedly interested in Jamie.

I think its well documented on this board that Tri and I very rarely agree, but he's right in this case.

Carlo Colaiacovo is a very capable player.

Ok - lets say this is true. Just curious on how did you plan on getting him?

Carlo Colaiacovo

The bolded above is the point. People see what they want to see in Jaime. They take the media hype from the Lemaire-disasterfest and extrapolate, with little regard to Lang's performance as a captain throughout his tenure. I still haven't heard anyone respond to his playoff performance in 08-09.

Lastly, saying Brodeur endorsed Parise as the future of the franchise is something quite different than him leading a locker room of guys (i.e. Elias, Brodeur, Langs, White, etc. etc.) who have tons of experience on him and have been to places he's only dreamed of. I love Zach, he works hard, but his hard work alone hasn't gained him the wisdom and seniority to lead a team of vets, and truthfully, while I respect his game tremendously - he himself hasn't yet shown an ability to take this team on its back during the playoffs - and he's seen 4 seasons of failure.

With respect to Elias's captaincy, that was a team with a bonafide #1 center (Gomez), a true #1a PMD (Rafalski) - something we lost in 07-08. Whether it was the right or wrong choice by Sutter to put his stamp on the team can of course be argued. My beef with Patty is not the player, but the franchises's love for the guy's career contributions clouds what he produces for his pricetag today on the ice currently. I don't hate the guy, but his tenure here has earned him a lot of "credit" for what his $6M should be bringing come playoff time.
