Standing on his head time and time again to shut down a bigtime offense. Why need to start searching for a clutch goaltender and soon. Well anyone that watched him during the Olympics knows that he is capable of stepping his game up in high pressure situations, but that was insane. I don't think I can think of 1 player having so much influence in a series as we witnessed in this one. Congrats to him, I'm on the hab bandwagon for the time being. For the Devils we'd be better off grabbing Hal Gill or Andrei Markov. If I'm getting too greedy, make it Josh Gorges or Ryan O'Byrne. it helps to have 30 something blocks from your defenseman too, just saying. Try 41 but Halak was terrific. I would I think Carey Price has great potential and just got crushed by the Montreal fans and media. They don't let young players grow up there. I'd love to see him here. Considering MTL's style of play (especially defensively) being just like the old Devils' style with the subsitution of blocked shots for physical presence, I'd have to agree with this. He blocked 6 shots, kept with the WSH forwards and gave his all. Gio was solid and Gomer had a great game, he moved up and down the ice nicely, setup dangerous plays and had a beautiful assist. How exactly does that help when calculating exactly what Halak did? So if the 41 shots weren't blocked he would've had to block 170+ shots? Sure anything could've happened but I think the sample size of blocking 130+ shots while allowing 3 says a lot about how much he has had to stand on his head. The problem with Marty, as his prime has passed, is he can stand on his head and block 40+ shots but when he lets in the 1 it usually leads to another and then another and we call it a bad game or an off night. Now the problem with the Devils in that scenario is the fact that we aren't consistent on offense. Especially when it comes to taking advantage of the power play. That being said if Marty played superhuman every game and we win no one says anything... if the Devils offense consistently explodes for 5 goals a game and we win no one says anything... if the Devils defense is stout every game and blocks everything going towards Marty and we win no one says anything... A. Many of the shots blocked were quality shots. (see Josh Gorges) B. You forget the point that the MTL defense closed gaps almost instantly, allowing only shots they wanted to allow. C. With that said Halak was terrific. In the playoffs you can't expect to get one bad goal. Halak and Boucher didn't allow one, Marty was good but he allowed a few easy ones. The most dominant playoffs ever by a goaltender, in my estimation. That team had no business winning, he carried them on his back the whole way. 10 overtime victories in a row. That says it all.
