Colorado Rockies 1976
Considering Josefson can't score and plays in all situations, his plus/minus will probably suffer. That's fair, but the Devils are going to need SOME offense from him eventually. Hopefully that comes in time.
Triumph
Anyone? C'mon, I'm sure there's been players who very much sucked their way to -4 ratings after 6 games, where their -4s weren't a result of bad luck. Not saying that Josefson is one of them. No. There haven't been. Players make mistakes that sometimes lead to goals - the critical word is sometimes. The goalie's still back there, and he still should save most of the shots. That's not even mentioning all the idiocies associated with +/- (which I don't think Josefson has come into contact with). A player with a PDO of 1000, to be down 4 goals at even strength through 6 games, should be -48 shots or thereabouts. Granted, Josefson has been getting slammed at even strength, but to be -48 through 6 games would be near impossible. Even assuming 20 total shots for and against, which would be really high, that would be a 30% shots percentage. It gets lower as we get more reasonable (for 14 shots total, that would be getting 21% of the shots). Josefson is only getting 37% of shots on goal + missed shots right now, which is a slight matter of concern, but I don't know how often he's being used in the offensive zone. I suspect it's not often because I know I saw DeBoer using him as a D zone center late in games instead of S. Gionta. Regardless, I see one guy who's +/- is considerably worse than everyone else's on the team, it raises a minor red flag, though a six-game sample isn't nearly enough to make a big deal out of it. The Devils need to know sooner than later what roles Josefson can fill for them, and due to a lot of circumstances, this is the time to find that out. Guess they think he can fill the 3 on 4 penalty killer role. Usually a good move to find out if 21 year old forwards are capable of doing that. Coorslight
Question. During the game I saw a Clarkson commercial, I Thought Lou was against that? He had one last year also with Pure Hockey. I don't think Lou has anything against some local advertising, it's not like he's doing a Reebok commercial taking the focus off of the team. I love those Pure Hockey commercials with Clarkson. Hopefully that comes in time. i dont think we'll ever see a big production out of him. Goals from time to time like any decent NHLers or Johnny on the spot kinda goals but i dont expect much more. 10-15 goals per season if healthy maybe, wish isnt too bad

People are inclined to read one way or another into small shooting samples at the beginning of someone's career, but I imagine Josefson will settle around the 1.5/2 shots per year type forward, which suggests between 12 and 16 goals per 82 games with a 10% shooting percentage. But lot's of shots are made that will obviously not result in anything. You can just shoot the puck in the goalies chest and rush so he covers it to get a faceoff in the o-zone or you can take an unscreened shot from the blue line that the goalie will stop without any chance of going in. And all those shots still goes in their % i assume it's not always a good indication IMO
devlman
What is it with MSG's production that is sounds as if Steve and Chico are calling the game from inside a phonebooth! The crowd they kept raving about barely came through on TV. It sounded even worse on the Isles' broadcast. I would hope that visiting broadcasts arent using our production feed because it would be no wonder our fan base gets slammed.
Devils Pride 26
Sal with another TERRIBLE night. This is getting really old fast. He is playing Mark Fraser 2010 playoffs esque bad. Power play needs to simplify things. Ditch the umbrella, three high sets. Let Elias run it through the half boards. Zidlicky and Kovy are circling at the blue line and cutting off their own angles. Frustrating. Drive the net. When you have space to walk in, TAKE IT

He doesn't even have a full season's worth of NHL games under his belt yet (75 GP to date), but in the past two seasons, he's scored 2 goals and added 8 assists in 47 GP. Clearly he'll improve off that, but unless he becomes a dedicated 4th-liner who's a penalty-killing specialist, numbers in that neighborhood offensively are going to be tough to take in the not-too-distant future. For next year though, I would like him to get through an 82-game regular season (and playoffs of course) healthy...if he can do that, that's probably when I'll start to focus on his production more (of course, a lot of this depends on if he's settled onto an established line by then). SterioDesign
those are the lines today... Henrique-Zajac-Kovalchuk Zubrus-Elias-Clarkson Carter-Gionta-Bernier Barch-Josefson-Anderson i don't hate it but to me the Carter Gionta Bernier is an AWESOME and above average 4th line... but a below average 3rd line (as i'd really like to have, with Josefson and 2 more decents wingers.) Gotta say that Darche is a really good veteran in the locker room and he's alright on the ice. There's only a few players i didnt hate from the Habs roster from last year... Darche, Price, Plekanec and Gorges.

You're overdoing with the numbers a bit on this one...I simply dared to mention that Josefson's +/-, in relation to his teammates', raises a few eyebrows. I never intimated that it was the end of the world or something that should have us all terribly concerned, based on the small sample size, and I also said that I don't think it he is entirely to blame for it. And though I respect the numbers you've put up here, I maintain that it's not all about bad luck when it comes to -4 in 6 GP scenarios...unless you've watched EVERY case where that's happened, you can't say with 100% certainty that it's ALWAYS due to rotten luck. Save for last night when he got two periods with Kovy and Zajac That's why I've given up on him improving his offensive numbers much in the near future...for now it's about staying healthy and seeing how he responds to all he will be asked to do...I have a feeling he's going to get a lot of opportunities, though they won't be the kind that fill up the "glamour" stat columns. Okay, so maybe there's an instance when in 6 games, a player throws the puck into his own net intentionally 4 times; I agree that I haven't seen that nor have I decided to check if that has ever happened. If it did, I bet it's on the 1983-84 Penguins' game tape. Aside from that, there are always enormous chance elements in everything that goes on during a hockey game. A player missing a check and it leading to a goal isn't a -1 on his head - it's a team game. The goalie could have stopped the shot - goalies stop most shots. They stop more than 50% of shootout attempts. Beyond the goalie, one of his teammates could have bailed him out. It's these events repeating - constant missed checks, turnovers, etc. that result in negative shot differentials and aside from cases where players beat the percentages, minuses. My point was that no NHL player has ever deserved a -4 after 6 games - either his team isn't shooting well when he's on the ice, or his goalie's not stopping enough pucks.
