  1. wait a second... i'm supposed to have no fingernails left at the end of the third period.
  2. we don't lay down on the ice unless our head is off. -prust
  3. gotta love Jeremy Roenick during intermission: (watching a clip of staal fall on his ass twice, completely untouched) "staal gets bumped down trying to be aggressive" It might just be me, but I'm really tired of these nbc fools (MM & JR) and their tilt. Whenever discussing something the devils have to do it's "Hopefully, for the devils, they will..." Whenever discussing something the rangers have to do it's "Hopefully they will...". It's a subtle difference, but its there, as if the rangers adjusting is for the greater good of the universe or something. I try not to be a conspiracy theorist, but I'm noticing it way too often. anyways... down with the 6 man goalie system! GO DEVS!
  4. Carter was in rare form that night. take, take, take... what a greedy bastard. check 1:40 to 2:30 for his antics: http://watch.tsn.ca/nhl/clip676500#clip675281
  5. does anyone have a gif of carter grabbing the puck from the bench, then tucking it under his arm? I think it was after the rinaldo penalty on zubrus.
  6. One time in a hundred, that play would have ended up in the net behind Marty, too. But he would have done a heck of a lot more with it before it ended up there... maybe drag it around the net and deke a forechecker or two first. Marty would never look like a deer in headlights. Are we forgetting the post shot by Briere in the same game??? Chalk up another for Brizzly, no way that's Timonen's fault.
  7. i'd have to agree. late hit - - targeting the head - - and he would have left the ice if zubrus wasn't so much taller than him.
  8. I have no problem with the guy. He's a color commentator, so he's basically born to be hated - everybody hates people who feel the need to fill all the empty space in conversation - he's just paid for it. I think if we all left our devils inferiority/superiority complexes at the door his commentary wouldn't seem so bad. I had never seen the can-rus video, though... Talk about not being able to judge the room temperature. It's too bad the play by play guy didn't have his hand close enough to pierre's cough button to keep him from stepping on that one. Oh, and the long stick video was super weird. But, on the other hand, if i was on camera all the time i'm sure you'd be able to find some doozies on me.
  9. "Usually I don't doubt anybody around me that I have to do this." Really, Marty... Really?
  10. I love everything he said. If losing in the first round made you a better team, we'd be going to the finals THIS year.
  11. I finally had the stomach to go through all the postgame interviews, and had to mention SOMEwhere how diasappointed I am with Marty's post-game comments... I guess this seemed like the most logical place. "It was a great shot," Brodeur said. "All series long we didn't let him skate with speed with the puck down the wing, but for whatever reason with no time on the clock we let him do it. He made the shot he wanted and beat me clean." WTF? Obviously he's upset, but he should have just kept his trap shut. Does he seriously think Staal was aiming for in-between his blocker and arm? And then to blame that goal on the defence? Maybe if he was screened I could understand it, but he saw that shot, he just wasn't fast enough. This isn't NHLPA '93 where 9/10 slap shots from the high circle go in. That shot was definitely save-able. Really, really not happy with his comments. I don't think the rest of the team will be either. When has the team ever thrown him under the bus?
  12. Over the past few years, my ability to defend Marty has diminished. The fact that the team gelled behind clemmenson kind of put a big hit on my will to do the defending anymore. Point is, plain and simple, Marty plays a very reactive style of goaltending. He's not predictable, but he doesn't have the reflexes for it anymore. He's older. The goods don't work like they used to. Athletes rarely talk about it, but it's true. I recognize it in myself, and I'm 4 years younger and obviously was never as fine tuned as he was. I guess it's a catch 22... a butterfly style will break down your body faster, but a reflex style doesn't suit an older player. If you're saying you can't see it after watching all season, you weren't looking. He just can't squeeze pucks anymore, it's like watching a sieve. I'm sorry, but I really think Marty is done. I was pretending to see the emperors clothes for the last couple seasons, but i can only pull that off for so long after watching him consistantly be outdueled by other goalies when it matters. This year was the worst. The other thing that i really can't take anymore is having Chico point out every time that Brodeur saves something that suits a hybrid goalie, but never pointing out ALL THE TIMES when any garden variety minor-league butterfly goalie would have made a save that marty didn't. Particularly, but definitely not limited to, the GWG from game 5 One of the big problems is that the devils are very loyal to aging players, but this is tough because marty is expecting to get 70+ games next season, and i don't think it's in the best interest of the team.
  13. It's become more of a lifetime achievement award at this point. I don't see Mason winning it. Actually, the more i think about it, the only award that isn't at least (partially) a lifetime achievement award is is the Calder trophy. Shame on the voters.
  14. agreed. all this talk of trading elias and gio kills me. both of them are extremely talented, but just need someone to clear space for them, something they didn't have last year. on top of that, they have been extremely loyal to the team, and have sacrificed personal stats for team success. gio waited around patiently for a new contract while gomez was taking us to the cleaners. elias took a look at big money across the river and came back here for less, then humbled himself as the captaincy was stripped from him without a word. for shame.
  15. Even better, those are the only forwards they have signed beyond next year. Slats has done absolutely everything to make sure he hasn't properly staggered his contracts.
  16. I agree. My mind was pretty-much blown reading that won.
  17. but of course, since he signed with the rangers, those same people will say he sucks and would never want him on their team. What we'll say is that he sucks and we don't want him on our team - - for that much money. You see, the Devils have what i like to call a "salary structure". The Rangers have only seen success in the last couple of seasons with rampant UFA spending aided by an existing entry level goaltender contract, and Washington pitching in for 1/2 of their best player's salary. Nice while it lasted, eh?
  18. Salv is the real deal. I don't know what any detractors can have against him. He's defensively reliable, well spoken, and a team player. Everything he has said since he got here, and after the signing has been nothing but gold. The fact that he was the go-to shutdown guy for Sutter immediately after he was brought in speaks volumes. On the Blues, he was one of two players in the plus, and he was up in the teens. If people need something to complain about, we have other defensemen making more money who are riddled with worse injury problems.
  19. Much respect to Brylin, and thanks for many years of service. Serge was a devil when quite a few of us were still in diapers. My wife just got a Brylin jersey last season, and i don't think this will keep her from wearing it.
  20. worst part is it was a bad call. jagr lifted zajac's stick into rozival's face. i just stopped by here to see if anyone here noticed it, 'cause the yokels over at msgplus sure didn't...
  21. It only gets interesting about midway through the video. makes me hope we pick up a discounted Havlat someday.
  22. Congrats, Cam! I'm really glad this deal got done. Cam is a great guy and brings a lot of fun to the rink, but I don't think he was ever going to be one of Sutter's boys. Kudos to Lou for doing what was best for Cam and the Devs at the same time. Team adjusted +/- is a big deal to me, and Salvador has one among the best in the league, I think he'll be a great replacement for VV. I hope he fits in with the locker room, and maybe we get something for VV if that's who we ship.
