  1. Hey I joined the league before I realized the draft was at a time I can't attend. Can you please remove me from the league?
  2. You are assuming that Barch and Jannsen don't make up a spot on the 4th line. As soon as one of them is dressed we lose the ability to roll 4 solid lines.
  3. Who sent that pass to voracek, it was perfect
  4. As per TG, Devils camp now looks like: Forwards (21): Krys Barch, Damien Brunner, Ryan Carter, Ryane Clowe, Patrik Elias, Stefan Matteau, Rostislav Olesz, Stephen Gionta, Adam Henrique, Jacob Josefson, Andrei Loktionov, Rod Pelley, Tim Sestito, Travis Zajac, Steve Bernier, Jaromir Jagr, Cam Janssen, Michael Ryder, Mike Sislo, Mattias Tedenby, Dainius Zubrus. Defensemen (13): Brandon Burlon, Mark Fayne, Eric Gelinas, Andy Greene, Peter Harrold, Adam Larsson, Jon Merrill, Bryce Salvador, Damon Severson, Alex Urbom, Anton Volchenkov, Harry Young, Marek Zidlicky. Goaltenders (4): Martin Brodeur, Cory Schneider, Keith Kinkaid, Scott Wedgewood. Assuming Clowe, Elias, Henrique, Loktionov, Zajac, Bernier, Jagr, Ryder, Zubrus, and Carter are locks at forward. Then, Fayne, Greene, Larsson, Salvador(e), Volchenkov, Zidlicky are locks at D. That means pick 5 of these 17: Matteau, Olesz, Gionta, Josefson, Tedenby, Barch, Brunner, Harrold, Gelinas, Merrill (short list). ...or the long shots: Sislo, Pelley, Sestito, Janssen, Severson, Young, Burlon I'd like to see Olesz, Josefson, Brunner, Gelinas and Harrold make it.
  5. According to NBC Brodeur was named the starter for opening night. http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2013/09/17/devils-name-brodeur-opening-night-starter/related/ Seems a bit premature to me, but I doubt the opening night starter will dictate who gets the most starts going forward. Edit: Here's a better source: https://twitter.com/Ledger_NJDevils/status/379999655607930880
  6. When I was in college in Connecticut I used a Slingbox and all the Devils fan would hop in my room to watch the game. It was a lot of fun and the quality was very good. If you don't want to spend the money, you can find online feeds. Google myp2p or first row sports. For the best quality (but not all the games), check out reddit.com/r/hockey. It takes a bit of technical know-how to set it up, but you can get full HD streams of some games using a program called VLC. If you choose to go this option, there are some guides available on that site and online if you look around.
  7. In a way, Lundqvist might be considered one of many potential back up plans. After all, it possible that Brodeur's $4 million cap hit retires and Schneider's $4 million cap hit walks away. We would then have an additional $8 million to a sign a marquee goalie. Of course, this is all assuming that at least Schneider and Lundqvist are all UFA at the same time.
  8. Breaking news: Jagr announces surprise retirement to return to Czech League.
  9. DAMNIT KOVALCHUK WE COULD HAVE NATIONALIZED OUR LINES. You ruined everything! Olesz - Elias - Jagr Zubrus - Loktionov - Kovalchuk. Clowe - Henrique - Ryder Gionta - Zajac - Carter
  10. I don't check Jagr's twitter very often but is there a reason his background is of Flyers fans? Is this recent or just a holdover? https://twitter.com/68Jagr
  11. wow we're like done with road games by December

    We will Rebuild

It's done. Forget it. We move forward without him. We'll be a team built from the goalie and defense out just like we always were. We have a top-5 defense on the cusp of being ready to go full-speed ahead and a new goalie who will be the envy of the league.
  13. I wonder what Pesonen's angle is. Surely he understands his chance to make it to the NHL is slim-to-none for more than a handful of games at a time. Why make $105k to play in Albany when he could probably make double playing in his native Finland?

    2013 NHL Draft

Islanders just traded Niedereiter to the Wild for Clutterbuck, odd timing.
  15. Picking #9 is a complete crapshoot. Here are the last bunch of players picked at #9. A couple of stars, a few average players, and a bunch of garbage. If we have to give up a defenseman and #9 to move up to pick at #5, it might be very worth it. Players picked at #5 are almost always impact+ NHLers. Brent Krahn Tuomo Ruutu Petr Taticek Dion Phaneuf Ladislav Smid Brian Lee James Sheppard Logan Couture Josh Bailey Jared Cowen Mikael Granlund Dougie Hamilton Jacob Trouba
  16. Abridged version: F U FANS.
  17. I think you HAVE to use ES SOG/60 (or ES CORSI) to accurately compare forwards. I think the main argument in favor of using a statistic like Shots on Goal per 60 minutes of Even-Strength ice time combined with Zone-Start percentage, Quality of Competition, and Quality of Linemates allows you to make a MUCH better evaluation of a player rather than goals. Goals incorporates too many things that are out of the players control. For example, the player could be generating a ton of high quality scoring chances and running into incredible goaltending. Or, the player may have terrible linemates. Or the player could be named Kesler and start and be facing the oppositions best players all the time from the defensive zone which reduces a players effectiveness if we only evaluate goals. Now, if we look at the previous stats, Even-Strength Shots on Goals per 60 minutes of ice time eliminates bias towards PP/SH specialists and ice time. Next, Zone-Start percentage tells us if we should "adjust" our perception of this player when looking at SOG/60 favorably or unfavorably depending on zone-start. If a player is always starting in the defensive zone, it is naturally more difficult to generate offense than starting in the attacking zone. Finally, quality of competition and quality of linemates can again provide an adjustment for obvious reasons. Lets compare two players. Player A: 10 G, 22 A, 32 P ES Corsi: 26.62 (higher is better) Off-Zone %: 42.4 (higher means more offensive zone starts) QoC: 0.627 (higher is more challenging) Player B: 13G, 36A, 49 P ES Corsi: -10.6 Off-Zone %:50.8 QoC: -0.3 By goals and assists, Player B is far superior. By all other measures, Player A is destroying Player B. Player A is Patrice Bergeron Player B is Mike Ribiero Who is the player you would rather have? EDIT: All numbers above, except total goals and assists are ES numbers.
  18. Our next goalie will almost certainly come from outside the organization. Some available UFAs next year (who may or may not ever get to free agency): Lundqvist Hiller Halak Dubnyk Crawford

    Devils by GVT

Basically. A player who gets a GVT of 0.0 can be considered your generic AHL call-up. Therefore, players who are NHL calibre should be consistently achieving GVTs above 0.

    Devils by GVT

Some of you may find this interesting. I took the GVT statistics from this year and compared them to last year. I equalized it to an 82 game season for both this season and last season. I also deleted and/or set to zero the players who's sample size was too small to make annualizing to an 82 game season reasonable. (i.e; Gionta's 1 game last season would have made him a 41 GVT player over an 82 game season). I know this board has some issue with GVT and similar statistics. Yes, I know that GVT is hardly an end-all measure to calculate player performance. But, like +/-, it has its place when examined in context. This is not scientific at all so please chill out. Also, I apologize for the formatting, its the best I could do without too much effort on the board. Some interesting items (according to this measurement): Elias managed to have an even better season than last year, what a player. Andy Greene, Mark Fayne, and Adam Larsson had monster years; and... All of our defenseman are pretty good, even Salvador, despite his regression. Loktionov was the trade of the season for perhaps any NHL team Hedburg was the 4th worst player in the NHL (the bottom 10 were all goalies I think) Zajac actually got better??? - I think this is a small sample size issue for both years What is not included in this table is the breakdown of Offensive GVT and Defensive GVT. About 85% of GVT came from defensive play. I don't know how this compares to most teams in most seasons but it might be near historically high. NHL Rank GVT/82 GVT/82(Last) Difference 42 Patrik Elias 23.7 19.4 4.3 68 Andy Greene 21.1 9.4 11.7 165 Ilya Kovalchuk 18.6 24.3 -5.7 256 Mark Fayne 15.1 4.7 10.4 269 Adam Larsson 13.7 4.2 9.5 421 Dainius Zubrus 13.7 10.0 3.7 233 Adam Henrique 12.6 15.4 -2.8 231 Ryan Carter 12.5 -1.3 13.8 203 David Clarkson 12.5 8.6 3.9 369 Andrei Loktionov 12.1 -0.8 12.9 393 Henrik Tallinder 12.1 0.4 11.7 219 Stephen Gionta 11.9 0.0 11.9 218 Marek Zidlicky 11.9 3.3 8.6 340 Anton Volchenkov 10.2 8.3 1.9 352 Steve Bernier 7.3 1.0 6.3 360 Travis Zajac 7.1 6.6 0.5 413 Alexei Ponikarovsky 6.7 5.3 1.4 602 Stefan Matteau 4.3 0.0 4.3 570 Martin Brodeur 3.6 3.8 -0.2 618 Peter Harrold 3.5 3.0 0.5 523 Bryce Salvador 3.4 8.6 -5.2 680 Tom Kostopoulos 1.8 -1.5 3.3 630 Matt D'Agostini 1.8 4.3 -2.5 640 Steve Sullivan 1.1 5.3 -4.2 837 Jacob Josefson -2.2 7.2 -9.4 899 Johan Hedberg -27.0 18.8 -45.8
  21. Kunitz - Crosby - Dupuis Neal - Malkin - Iginla Morrow - Sutter - Kennedy Bennett - Glass - Cooke I don't know how any sane person can think anyone matches up well to that. That 1st line is top notch. That 2nd line is better than 90% of 1st lines and arguably better than all of them. Third line makes an argument for among the best 3rd lines in hockey, too.
