What type of D man is he? Much like larsson?

From the Hockey Prospect Black Book:

Despite his size, Lindholm has shown us a little more on the offensive side than the defensive side of the game. He’s at his best when moving the puck up the ice either rushing it or passing it. He isn’t an excellent skater, so he can’t fly up the ice with the puck, however he protects it well and gets the job done. Hampus has a good shot from the point and lets it go when the opening is there but prefers to move the puck a little more. Defensively Hampus is very hit or miss. His lack of footwork tends to see him get beat to the outside too often, and he doesn’t win enough battles for a defenseman of his size.

With Rogle earning a promotion into the Elitserien, Hampus can expect new challenges at a higher level of play. He will need to continue to work on his skating, tenacity and defensive play if he wants to stick with the big club and make a positive impact.

From the Future Considerations Draft Guide:

STRENGTHS: He is a very aggressive puck rushing defenseman with a high offensive upside. He starts rushes quickly with his high-end skating ability and vision. He has great feet that allow him to pivot and make quick changes of direction, throwing checkers off balance. He has a powerful stride that generates good push, strong acceleration and good transitions from front to back. He has very soft hands and can carry the puck up ice on the rush or push a long, skilled breakout pass up to one of his forwards. He has the ability to see the offensive play developing before most and quickly jumps into the lane or opening. He has some good creativity and can generate scoring chances from the back end with his playmaking skills as well as his slapshot. He does not panic under pressure and makes good decisions with the puck in the offensive zone. He drives down, deep into the offensive zone, and attacks the net—looking for rebounds or a cross-crease pass—then utilizes his feet to get back into defensive position. He has good work ethic and competes hard, game in and game out. He has good size, great skating and offensive potential, making him a very intriguing

prospect.

WEAKNESSES: For all of his composure and poise with the puck in the offensive zone, he reacts the exact opposite in his own zone. He makes bad decisions and is not hard enough on the puck. Inconsistent play is the biggest detraction from Lindholm’s game. He can force things and tries to make low percentage passes that turn into odd man rushes or scoring chances against. As the case is with most of the Swedish defensemen, he isn’t nearly as physical as he could be and, despite his measurements, he struggles to handle tougher opponents. His defensive awareness is just not there a lot of the time. He also showed a tendency to leave too much room between himself and opposing forwards entering the zone, allowing them to gain speed. He is too lax in front of his net. He has all the tools to be a star but is still pretty raw.

So one says he's a not so great skater and his lack of footwork hurts him defensively. The other says he's an elite skater and that same skating ability allows him to defend well when pivoting. Glad I got a handle on this guy now, lol.

There are going to be conflicting reports since certain prospects are going to be seen more often by some organizations than others. It is a bit confusing but what I took away from it is that he is a decent skater but not great, especially when carrying the puck. Seems like a guy that is more about moving the puck with a pass and then joining in on the attack than trying to rush it up the ice. Seems like he needs to work on his footwork and positioning in the defensive zone a lot. Both pulbications seem to think of him as an offensive d-man and potential liability.

Hockey Prospect's Black Book includes scouting notes from games, in some cases even the handwritten notes. For a lot of prospects there will be multiple games (espeically those in North America) but for Lindholm there was no game specefic notes.

Lindholm is a good defenseman but with Larsson and Merrill in the system I think they should try to pick up a winger, someone like Martin Frk would be perfect at 29th IMO, Frk is the guy I want the Devils to get.

With how far his stock has fallen, they may be able to get him with their 2nd pick. I'd be upset if they draft him at 29.

Good to know. It's so hard to really get a handle on all the draft eligible guys. Just not enough time in the day to watch clips and whatnot. I really think this team's only two glaring needs are a top 6 RW and another mobile guy on D a la Greene, except bigger and can put up points. Although, the latter need could quite well be filled by Larsson looking better next year as I anticipate he will. Though I still think we could use someone who can point up a few more points than we've seen Tally and Volch do in the past two years.

Does anyone think that the Devils are going to sit at 29? I think they're trading out of that spot. I think they kept this pick to use as leverage to move. Whether thats up or out of the 1st round is anyone's guess, but I would be surprised if we actually pick at #29.

I agree with you. My gut feeling is telling me they plan on moving up in the 1st round to grab a specific player that they feel will be available at that spot.

Feisty- what do you think of Anton Slepyshev if we keep our pick at 29?

Age: 18 HT/WT: 6'1 181 lbs. Pos: LW Shoots: R

2011-12: 4-3-7 -8 2 PIM in 39 KHL games (Metallurg Novokuznetsk), 7-2-9 +11 6 PIM in 13 MHL games (Kuznetskie Medvedi), 3-4-7 +3 6 PIM in 6 WJC U-18 games (Captained Russia)

Rankings

CSS: 10th European Skater

Future Considerations: 48th Overall

Hockey Prospect: 78th Overall

Hockey Prospectus: 17th Overall

The Hockey Prospectus link has some analysis so I highly recommend checking out that link.

From the Hockey Prospect Black Book:

Anton probably shines in practice and he looks great in warmup. The problem we saw, is he really doesn’t produce as much as we expected based on the talent level he possesses. He seemed to be one of those guys who leave you wanting more. He looks great and real flashy buzzing around the ice, he just looks like a pro. He has moves and stickhandles well but tends to not get involved enough in anything resembling physical play. He tends to play a perimeter game.

Skating and shooting are areas where Slepyshev shines. He has a good powerful stride and generates good speed. He moves well laterally and does a good job shaking defenders. His shot is very good, he flashed some great one-timers in our viewings.

Future Considerations also has a similar scouting report on him.
